The more popular nostr gets the more we will see this. I get really confused by some people's post about connections or interactions on here being more genuine, friendly. LoL... This is going to be more toxic than Twitter! Freedom is a shit.

Seems to me nostr has a long way to go to replace twitter. For example, I lose my social graph when I test a new client if the relays are different. Do you think mainstream users will know how to track and manage their relays?

nostr is not just to replace twitter, but can replace any digital place we interact, github really needs a nostr replacement, many coders dislike github, nostr means devs have a much lower barrier to talk with anyone on anything

Nostr, the protocol, itself is decentralized. The apps used to connect are built by individuals, but that's just a means to access the decentralized data. Similar to exchanges used to access the blockchain. There's built in checks and balances to make sure the rules are followed but no forced content, ads, narratives, algorithms. Your feed is what you make of it

Africa will bank on bitcoin before any other continent

Nostr is just the start of a decentralization revolution. Next 5-10 years I see a race to decentralize virtually everything. People are tired of having the wool pulled over their eyes by big brother. The time for change is here.

Bitcoin and Nostr are really opening peoples eyes to the beauty of fully open source software, FOSS.

“Open source” always sounded like some super boring thing to me until Bitcoin. I just didn’t care. Now I see why it’s so important.

4. Corpo-authoritarian social media cos are incentivized by negative behavior, clashes between differing views. “Doomscrolling”.

Nostr client users can reward others for useful content via zaps. Positive reinforcement mechanism. Users can tailor their own personalized “universe” feed. Nostr is “Hopescrolling” via #[4].

5. Nostr is open, and you can carry your data and signature with you to the next client, and/or relay if you’re not satisfied with current ones. This is the ultimate free market. Devs ship product and fixes at lightning speed to respond to user feedback, and keep up their offering with that of other clients.

Unless there’s a schelling point that forms around relays, I’d assume the default relays on each client will be different.

Most likely issue would be a difference in relays between the two clients.

If so, adding the relays from Damus to Snort should bring the experiences to parity.

Having weird things going on in terms of client’s interoperability as well. There are pretty much two options:

1. Tinker with relays (and risk losing follows and followers)

2. Wait for devs to implement improvements

I believe nostr now feels similar to bitcoin in 2009-10

I think we are in the phase of running away from things like Twitter/Reddit to nostr, so the conversation is about that.

But it goes much broader than just social media. It’s a generalized protocol that enables many use cases, and I think the power of it comes in the ability to go from one use case, or client, to another, quickly and easily.

We haven’t seen much yet around this idea but we will.

I’m personally really hoping for a github replacement that Bitcoin core would feel safe using.
