Not all algorithms will be local and transparent but all will be voluntary. You will always be able to switch them and sometimes at the cost of using a different client.

For this time I think I already screwed up. Round-trip was at least $1.8k so when I saw one-way at $700 I bought it for the five of us, only to learn that at least some of the return flights would have been $200 cheaper round-trip. But going there together is of importance, so ... guess I'll have to accept to pay a bit extra.

I lived in an apartment building at the time and during summer, all the apartments around filled with tourists but didn't have Wifi, so I provided free wifi for up to 50 devices using Freifunk.
I flashed routers with the Freifunk firmware. There is open firmware for existing routers. No need to solder.
