Red may be awesome but it will always be the sound that will make a virtuoso out of a novice. Also, is your child a loner or more of a socializer? If she's a loner, there's a huge chance she'll become a virtuoso if given the best-sounding equipment. As a socializer, she may go for aesthetics.
