I agree that practice makes perfect. The more you write, the better you will become - but only if you're willing to improve.
If you simply write the same formula over and over again because it sells, you might get famous, but that does not mean quality.
(I don't know this guy, and no idea how he meant it, but that's my take).

Miriam prefers practical and robust. Thus, it's jeans, boots, and a leather jacket for her.
Daniel wears jeans, t-shirts, and any kind of sneakers that will not fall apart on him.
Flo hides his body behind loose, light clothes. His shirts are a number too big, and he prefers sweats or soft cotton trousers. He likes to be underestimated.

What would your MC enjoy the most about our world?
It is the same world - with the exception that we do not have light or shadow channelers (to my knowledge). Thus, it wouldn't be any different to them.

You see, I have this Wolf Shifter series out which is basically adventure/romance (with a HEA) and which follows different members of a family of Wolves (and a pack).
I really dislike the whole Alpha trope, so you won't find anything like that in them. My characters also refused to be watched in bed, so it's not steamy.

For Daniel - most definitely worse. Demons and hunters came out of hiding, turning everything upside down. He hasn't felt safe for a year.
For Miriam & Florian: They have always known the truth, being raised as the promised ones. For them, not much has changed, only their perception.
