I am a software developer and writer. Started two Silicon Valley companies. Wrote for Wired. Fellow at Harvard, NYU. Founder of podcasting, blogging, RSS. I used to be Mastodon on Compuserve CB radio in the early 80s. Now I work on FeedLand and Drummer, outliners and feeds. And Textcasting. Lots of wonderful stuff already working, more on the way.

I've been building around WordPress to create a social network based on RSS. I want to get out of being controlled by billionaire-owned sites. I have a feeling we may need a good backup given where we are now.

All of a sudden my posts on Mastodon are getting liked and forwarded a lot more than on the other platforms. At a loss to understand what changed? Hmm.

I asked ChatGPT to explain how OPML is used for lists of feeds. I was blown away by what it came back with. I literally said "holy fuck" out loud on every single bullet point.

Matt, my friend -- it's not petty, it's the open web winning. In podcasting we won, by setting the pattern early-on. People expect choice in how they listen, and reject gate-keepers. It's a genetic seed, and once it takes hold it's impossible to overcome. This is what podcasting is teaching us.

We should retroactively free Americans who were enslaved prior to the 13th Amendment. They should be thought of today as full citizens of the United States to whom unthinkable harm was done.

Social media is just a moral parade. Mostly people pissing in the wind.
