Other than being irrational human beings kids are awesome as they have spot on BS meters when it comes to money. With that said, my daughter and I have been learning about money together. She has a strong grasp that when money is controlled it is corrupted. Trust me, nothing infuriates her more than when playing the nostr:npub1ujhr260ncp0z0z88pu4u35mh0c0qkf8nc37989v5w9d9ac7ne6gsejz495 Inflation Monster Game inflation outpaces her ability to pay off debts so she has to sell all her real estate! So, naturally and to my delight, when given the opportunity to start earning a weekly allowance she chose to stack sats, 7000 sats/week. This is where the magic really starts, obviously the bigger number is attractive in theory, but what really made her jaw drop was seeing payment enter her self custodial wallet we setup together. Pure magic in her eyes knowing it is hers, she earned it and it cannot go anywhere. But the magic doesn’t stop here. She has a basic understanding of how mining works by playing the board game HODL UP. But what this game really taught her is that her sats aren’t safe in a hot wallet, they need to be moved into cold storage. She has reiterated that to me a couple times, which brings me home to this morning at breakfast before school. She was upset at me for a litany of things, mainly gently waking her for school, allowing her 5 minutes to slowly wake before lights on, etc. In order to coax her to the breakfast table I made mention she had a surprise waiting for her. Obliging begrudgingly, she sat with a brown package before her which she immediately opened. The object inside could fit in the palm of her hand, has a lovely finish and a light that started to flash. Confused, she read the packaging, Bitkey didn’t mean anything to her. At this point I opened up her “hot” wallet and said “are your sats safe in this hot wallet?” “Of course not” she replied, unamused by this idiotic question. It was at this moment I looked at the device and said, “that’s why you have this”. That’s when the magic returned, her face lit up and she said “my own cold wallet”. Similar to the “I get to” trick I do, every time I find myself annoyed or avoiding doing something with my daughter that I don’t personally enjoy, just knowing that “I get to” do something that is meaningful to her, and/or brings her joy snaps me right outta my negative mindset. Wish I had this one in the pocket when she was waking me up at all hours 🤪
