#grownostr #gardening #Texas cucumbers and melons growing like crazy right now. I’m also harvesting hairy vetch seeds for this winters cover crop.

I have one new row of cucumbers that sprouted really well with a lot of biochar mixed in. The two other areas with less had terrible germination rates.

I’ll be checking my aquaponics system soon for propagated elderberry and blackberry in biochar, sand/perlite, and regular clay pebbles.

#[2] #biochar #aquaponics Have you tested biochar in your systems? I’ve got biochar in my grow bed, a pillow case full in one of my tanks.

I have bluegill with Ich/white spots and I swear that it has gone down substantially… thoughts?

#grownostr #frog #gardening glad it wasn’t a snake :)

#grownostr #biochar #garden and I’m done. About 2 hours to create biochar

Not too much smoke, this is wood from a few months back - IE not dried enough. #grownostr #gardening https://nostr.build/av/1a26a582bb05bf25b728186c627f69419635c7cbe581d168af771a7f7989a41f.mov

#grownostr #biochar this wood on top is pretty wet. Doesn’t matter, load as much as possible in the correct cone kiln.

Long story short, they dug a lot of simple ditches, ponds and anything to capture the water, let it soak into the land. That raises the water table and next thing you know, springs start popping up. Cool stuff.

I’m betting it will be a better alternative then the clay pebbles I’ve been using. Cheaper, able to swap out every year and fertilizer a garden, light. I’ll swap out my lava rock and see what happens :)

#[0] thoughts about using only biochar as the media in aquaponics grow beds? I’m switching over a few things in my system. Seems that it will be superior to clay pebbles. Currently testing in solo cups - elderberry / blackberry cuttings.

#grownostr #gardening #plants avacado growing great in a pond plant basket sitting in some water. I do have something under to keep it a little elevated.

#grownostr #biochar #propagation #plants doing a test to see if elderberry and blackberry will root in biochar. My sand solo cups seem to be working well.

Yes, super easy to propagate. I normally place them in my aquaponics system. I’ve also done it through a propagation bed. You could probably place cuttings in water and they would root.

This is my aquaponics system:

I’ll build a small fire, then basically load as quickly as possible without too much smoke or smothering the fire. I can do a batch in about an hour.
