We pay taxes to make it increasingly difficult for us to get ahead, and force many of us to rely on ‘services’ supplied by our corrupt government.
They don’t need our taxes, but they sure DO need to control us via taxation.

I think that's one part of the reason for taxes. The other part is make sure there is always broad demand for dollars. Everyone needs dollars to pay their taxes.

No problem! Note that anyone can run a relay if they want (permissionless protocol). You could run your personal relay for storing your own notes, and maybe those of your friends/follows.
They are stored on relays, where else would they be? Although there is no guarantee for how long any relay stores your notes.
