Watching the narrative on energy use shift around “gen AI” has been amazing. Let’s not forget that “gen AI” exists simply as an attempt to allow wealth to access skills while ensuring that those with skills cannot access wealth. Let’s also not mention that as to yet these Gen AI product are not monetizable, and likely can only be sustained by the fiat money printer. And let’s also ALSO not point out that most of the “advanced” cases people talk about for Gen AI, like predictive chemical reaction modeling for pharma are actually extremely narrow use case and have been in the market for some 15 years now, or longer.

Perhaps one of the beautiful things about the internet then is that in making so much content “free” it robs many Gen AI use cases of any path to monetization.

That said, let these companies make massive malinvestments in AI. They are just softening the ground for bitcoin mining. They will have to take massive write downs, the GPUs will have to be thrown out or repurposed some other way and facilities that are being built for AI will be forced to shift to what they should have been used for all along, bitcoin mining…

The Fed just cut rates with entrenched inflation above 2.5%, the government is running multi-trillion dollar non-recessionary deficits, and a President just bought cheeseburgers using #Bitcoin. Welcome to the future.
