Cannabis still getting established in the rabbit colony.

This pineapple pomegranate is the best looking of the group so far. It is the last remaining seed of the genetics I started with from Massive Seed Co. in Oregon.

A small rabbit kit squeezed it's way past the cage of this pineapple pomegranate super lemon haze cross. I think it will survive and will be interesting to compare the growth as the season goes on.

Still waiting for the plants to show their sex. I will pull any males and feed them to the rabbits.

Katahdin hair sheep thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

The last two paddocks have be good for 4 days which is unusual. All great news and best part is the other paddocks will get plenty of rest. The lambs are starting to eat grass and I can't wait to weigh them in to see how much they've grown. Next couple paddocks look good but soon they will reach very sparse pasture that I chose to skip in the April pass. The next paddock got 47 days of rest.

I like to think I get most of what you're trying to achieve by putting the shelter/water in the best fixed location in each paddock for my sheep. Typically it's a spot high on the landscape. I'm moving my sheep every few days so there is rarely a detrimental impact where the shelter and water are. However, I've only got 20-60 sheep moving around. It would be nice to have a robot water tank that could move with the flock and go full itself though; maybe mine some Bitcoin when the sun is shining good too.
Yakul the Katahdin Ram showing off his fresh paddock in the maple sugar bush

In seasons past the rams have had full access to this 2 acre stand of sugar maple trees to eat all the vegetation keeping the forest floor open for when I tap the trees in the winter. This year, I have been paddock shifting them through the woods about 1/2acre at a time. The perimeter fence needs an overhaul and won't do a good job of keeping the rams contained. Until I find time to tackle that fencing project, these rams will move through the sugar bush one paddock at at time.

Katahdin hair sheep picking at the scraps of this paddock for the next 12hrs.

The next paddock is looking good for another 4 days of grazing.

It's been close to 45 days since the sheep last grazed here. Everything looking good so far this season.

Local blue fillets on stir fried veggies with rice

Neighbor brought back some bluegill fillets from a fishing trip and gave them in exchange for me keeping an eye on his place. Steamed the fish up with stir fried vegetables and basted with a lime, cilantro, maple syrup, soy sauce. Featuring homegrown garlic powder, cilantro and maple syrup.

Mullein and cannabis a match made in heaven!

Mullein makes wonderful cannabis spliffs for the non tobacco smokers out there. I quit smoking tobacco years ago but always missed smoking spliffs. I found mullein as a tobacco substitute last year and was surprised at how nice of a smoke it was.

Got the mullein processing in the Bitcoin mining dehydrator now. I will soon be a spliff maxi yet again!!

Hit the breach after dinner still in my work clothes

Summer is coming but we never make enough time to get to the beach. Hopefully we can change that this year.
Ginseng sprouts

Made a bed for ginseng on the North side of my house and scattered the seed. Got way better germination than I expected given the stories I've heard of difficulty growing ginseng from seed.
Any experienced ginseng growers out there? Should I thin, transplant to to make some breathing room, or let it ride?

Purple Dead Nettle Antihistamine Tea

Been drinking 2-3 cups of purple dead nettle tea throughout the spring allergy season. I can now say for sure that this tea is the best natural allergy remedy I have ever tried. I can be out stomping through chest high grass with clouds of pollen in my face resulting in extreme eye swelling, wheezing, endless sneezing and overall misery. After drinking the tea (and washing the pollen off my body), my symptoms are gone in minutes. There are zero side effects too. Truly been a miracle for me.

Black Rat Snake

These snakes are common here on the homestead and they get huge! This one is least 4ft long. I hope this snake does some good work eating varmints!

In the woods, food comes in layers for the sheep.

Been slowly turning this once closed canopy woods into silvopasture after having some logging done a few years ago.

Now there are tons of sapling trees in there so I break the tops about 3-4ft up so the sheep can eat the leaves.

Been using this technique with great success elsewhere around the homestead to get grass to grow deeper into the woods and thin out some unwanted trees.

Finally found a used ice cream churn to whip up some ice cream from our east friesian dairy sheep milk. It's not perfect but certainly delicious and a much welcome treat on a hot afternoon.

Katahdin Hair Sheep Resting in the Shade

Heat can cause serious stress on the sheep and force them to waste energy trying to stay cool. If we can provide paddocks with cool microclimates we will be able to maximize the growth of our flock through the summer. This shade shelter is the next best thing.

The sheep are getting mentally prepared for the next jungle of a paddock. They will find lots of sapling ash, tulips poplar, cottonwood and willow for forage as well as other unusual delights like day lilly.
