I love the 5 senses meditation --where you sit wherever you are and hear the ambient sound around you while intentionally using the other senses to be totally immersed in the space you are occupying--as if you are invisible and non solid #Rumi

"Nope, that's not clover. ☘⁣

Wood sorrel grows worldwide, and it's easy to identify. ⁣

As one of the most unique-tasting wild weeds, wood sorrel tastes like a combination of cucumber and lemon rather than a leafy green. 🌿⁣

This wild edible makes a wonderful addition to salads, soups, or any other dish, even desserts, that could benefit from its tanginess.⁣"

Wow, if you saw my previous post about these non electric "wonderbags" for slow cooking food--here is a link on how to make your own. https://www.underthechokotree.com/energy/339-cooking-with-stored-heat/383-making-a-fabric-stored-heat-cooker-wonderbag #nonelectric #slowcooking #wonderbag #homesteading #DIY #food

Apparently this old hay box cooking method or "pumpkin bag" aka "wonderbag" has been around for a long time--but I just discovered it today! Wow. Someone said you can also use it to keep things cold when you go camping.

"For those of you who haven’t seen one before this is a Wonderbag. It is basically a slow cooker that doesn’t use any electric! The idea is that you start off your meal by cooking it on the stove top. So say I am making stew I would bring a large pot to the boil and let it cook for a good 10 minutes or so and then I transfer the pot (with the lid on) to inside the wonderbag, add the lid and pull the drawstring tightly. Then 8 hours later the stew is cooked. The idea is based on the old hay box cooking method. As an alternative to buying or making one you can wrap your pot in towels or blankets or duvets and put inside a cool box / bag or any box with a tight lid that won’t melt!"

"1 cup rice with 2 cups water ( less water than what you would usually use) plus salt to boil with lid on for about 5min

I bring to a rapid boil and let it boil for 3 min. Do not lift lid

Pop in wonder bag…ready in 40min - 1 hour" -Catherine Kelly

BEST HOMEMADE SALSA EVER 😍 Don't Lose This

Ingredients

1 can (28 ounce) whole tomatoes with juice

2 cans (10 ounce) Rotel (diced tomatoes and green chilies)

1/4 c. chopped onion

1 clove garlic, minced

1 whole jalapeño, quartered and sliced thin

1/4 tsp. sugar

1/4 tsp.salt

1/4 tsp. ground cumin

1/2 c. cilantro (more to taste!)

1/2 whole lime juice

Directions

Combine whole tomatoes, Rotel, onion, jalapeno, garlic, sugar, salt, cumin, lime juice, and cilantro in a blender or food processor. Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you'd like—I do about 10 to 15 pulses. Test seasonings with a tortilla chip and adjust as needed.

Refrigerate salsa for at least an hour. Serve with tortilla chips or cheese nachos. (credit All Tasty Recipes on Facebook) #Food #recipes #salsa

"Just a little warning for all who are canning pickles or anything using vinegar. This year you cannot just grab a plastic jar of vinegar or even pickling vinegar without checking the label. Safe pickling requires 5% acidity....for the first time we are seeing 4% acidity vinegar... on the shelves. That renders anything pickled in the 4% NOT shelf stable. There are several canning FB pages where everyone is warning ...for the first time ever...to check those labels or you could be throwing out many jars of unsafe pickled veggies." --old fashioned recipes (Facebook) #food #vinegar #pickling #warning #homestead

How to Build a Lasagna Garden Bed

1. Select a Location: Choose a sunny spot suitable for the plants you want to grow.

2. Prepare the Site: Clear the area of large debris, leaving the grass as is.

3. Lay a Weed Barrier: Cover the area with cardboard or layers of wet newspaper.

4. Add Brown Materials: Place a layer of leaves, straw, or shredded newspaper.

5. Add Green Materials: Add a layer of grass clippings, vegetable scraps, or manure.

6. Layer Compost: Spread compost over the green layer.

7. Repeat Layers: Continue adding alternate layers of brown and green materials, finishing with compost.

8. Water the Layers: Moisten each layer as you build the bed.

9. Let It Decompose: Allow the bed to sit for a few months until the materials break down.

10. Plant Your Garden: Once decomposed, plant directly into the bed.

These steps will help you create a fertile, ready-to-plant garden bed with minimal effort. #gardening #homesteading
