yes. to the tech literate there are ways of bypassing internet restrictions. however, this bill will create new criminal offenses incl. "false communication offense". who decides what's "false"?
"if the amendment proposed by Champion is passed, it could lead to restrictions on VPN usage in the UK. This could have serious implications for internet users who rely on VPNs to protect their privacy and bypass censorship"

this bill is a threat to basic human rights
it's good to know #signal is ready to walk if it happens
"Signal, an encrypted messaging service with roughly 40 million users, has said it will shut down UK operations if the bill undermines end-to-end encryption."

this is the future they want for us.
the uk has passed the online safety bill, undermining privacy, security, and freedom FOR ALL INTERNET USERS. this bill allows the government to force companies to backdoor e2e encryption.
private conversations are a basic human right.
"if the regulators claim their right to require the creation of dangerous backdoors in encrypted services, we expect encrypted messaging services to keep their promises and withdraw from the U.K. if that nationβs government compromises their ability to protect other users."
been testing out #kagi. the paid for privacy-respecting search engine that's "increasingly open-source" and does not log searches or harvest your data.
it's fast, highly customizable, has awesome ai features. a premium search experience.
imo it's totally worth $5 - $10 a month for no ads, premium search results, peace of mind knowing that my data are secure, my searches are not logged...that i am the customer, not the product.

a win for privacy and civil rights
βWhile it is good news that CBP is ending its purchase of Americans' location information, it's troubling that the agency still hasn't released the Trump-era DHS legal memo that provided CBP with the authority to engage in such warrantless surveillance in the first place,β Wyden told 404 Media in a statement.

remember that comic google released in 2008 to introduce chrome? check out this educational parody that leah released last year to help educate in an entertaining way how #google #chrome is a problem for #privacy.
like, did you know when you search the chrome omnibox that you don't even have to hit enter for the private information you typed (looking up an abortion clinic, politics, lgbtq+ content, whatever your private searches may be) to be sent to google's servers and added to your "profile"?
once it's typed in the search box, it's google's.
if you value privacy, don't miss this. it's a short, entertaining but a very important one.

proton vpn split tunneling is such a cool feature on android #grapheneos. it allows you to exclude apps (including system apps) from vpn traffic. works great for accessing LAN server setups, google home, roon etc. while using the vpn π€π»
