"Among Muslims none should be known as Turks, Arabs, Kurds, Ajem, Afghans, Indians or English. They are all Muslims, and verily the True‑Believers are brethren. Islam is erected on the Unity of God, the unity of His religion, and the unity of the Muslims. History demonstrates that the True‑Believers were never defeated while they remained united, but only when disunion crept into their ranks. At the present time, union is more than ever necessary among Muslims…”

Edwin Blashfield painted the Human Understanding mural onto the dome of the Main Reading room in the Library of Congress (Thomas Jefferson Building).
The twelve countries or epochs presented were supposed to have been what contributed the most to the evolution of western civilization.
The only religion on the mural mentioned is Islam - due to its contribution to physics.

Medina, Ohio was supposed to be named Mecca after the holy city to connect it to the concept of a central gathering place or spiritual destination. However, the name was already taken by Mecca Township in Trumbull County. To avoid confusion the inhabitants named it Medina after the next holy city in Islam to symbolize the area as a centre of spiritual refuge and community cohesion similar to Prophet Muhammad's setting up of a new Muslim community.
Both these names were brought about by the Second Great Awakening which brought about a moral conscientiousness to establish a community that is founded upon principles in America (as opposed to vices which alot of cities were formed alongside in their early days).
There is also a city called Medina in Ontario, Canada named for that reason.

Ayuba Suleiman Diablo (aka Job Ben Solomon)
(1731) Annapolis, Maryland, USA:
"Upon our talking and making signs to him, he wrote a line or two before us, and when he read it, pronounced the words Allah and Mahommed; by which, and his refusing a glass of wine we offered him, we perceived he was a Mahometan, but could not imagine of what country he was, or how he got thither; for by his affable carriage, and the easy composure of his countenance, we could perceive he was no common slave.”
(1733) London, England:
"Job’s aversion to pictures of all sorts was exceeding great, insomuch that it was with great difficulty that he could be brought to sit for his own. We assured him that we never worshipped any picture, and that we wanted his for no other end but to keep us in mind of him.
He at last consented to have it drawn, which was done by Mr. Hoare. When the face was finished, Mr. Hoare asked what dress would be most proper to draw him in; and, upon Job’s desiring to be drawn in his own country dress, told him he could not draw it unless he had seen it, or had it described to him by one who had.
Upon which Job answered, ‘If you cannot draw a dress you never saw, why do some of you painters presume to draw God, whom no one ever saw?"

"It seems that I have always been a Moslem. This is not so strange when one remembers that Islam is the natural religion that a child left to itself would develop. Indeed, as a Western critic once described it, "Islam is the religion of common sense.""

“The opinion prevalent in Christian countries with regard to El Islam is that, as compared with Christianity, it is a religion essentially unprogressive, and to some extent degrading to the human intellect. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The sort of lethargy, comporting ignorance and superstition, which has weighed upon the Muslim masses for the last three centuries, is the result of historical circumstances very similar to those which darkened Western Europe in the period before the Renaissance. It has little more than a geographical connection with the Muhammadan religion; and now, with the revival of a scientific education, it is at an end."

"That which is pronounced by the tongues, and believed in the hearts, concerning the
obligatory matters of the religion include believing in the heart while expressing with
the tongue that Allah is One, and there is no deity worthy of worship except Him. There
is nothing that resembles Him, and He has no rival or equal. He has no offspring and no
parents. He has no wife and no partners. He is the First and there is no beginning to His
firstness. He is the Last and there is no end to His eternalness. Neither His Essence nor
His Nature can be described or encompassed by His creation. Those who ponder will
only reflect upon His signs, while not delving into the reality of His Essence. (Allah
said), And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He
wills. His footstool extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in
guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. (Soorah Al-
Baqarah 2:255). He is the All-Knowing, the All-Aware, the Controller, the All-
Powerful, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the Most High, and the Most Great. He is
above His majestic throne in a manner befitting His Majesty, while His knowledge is in
every place. He created mankind, and He knows what man’s soul whispers to him. By
way of His knowledge, He is closer to man than his jugular vein. There is not a leaf
that falls except that He has complete knowledge of it."
