WBTC is a horrible abomination that needs to stop.
It’s bitcoin that’s custodied by BitGo, issued on the Ethereum blockchain to allow users to create smart contracts and do DeFi stuff.
Currently, 162.7k BTC is locked through this trust-maximized and censorship-guaranteed system. Which is more BTC that exists on Liquid, Lightning and RSK combined.

If my concerns turn out to be right in 3 years, are you willing to apologize?
Since the 2020-2021 bull market, Ethereum has built at least 3 layer two solutions that help it scale and have low fees.
They’re not really decentralized or censorship resistant, but if another bull market hits, Ethereum won’t run into scaling issues like last time.
I wish Bitcoin built some layer to make it easy to onboard these people in the way that they deserve, as they use the harder money that they want.

Had the honor to meet Phil Zimmermann, creator of PGP, legendary privacy warrior and Hal Finney’s boss in the 1990s.
We spoke for a few minutes and now he owns a limited edition copy of the Breaking FUD magazine 🤩
Should I try to get him on Bitcoin Takeover podcast?
He has no idea what he’s talking about 😂
The fees are very much necessary to secure Bitcoin, it’s even in the whitepaper.
Also, miners are important too.
In S14 E13 of the Bitcoin Takeover podcast, Paul Sztorc explains why big blocks never made sense in Bitcoin.
During the 5-hour episode, he also advocates for a smaller base layer block size in order to move more transactions to second layers & sidechains.

DMix by Fadi Barbara is a unique combination between a Taproot multisig and a CoinJoin. The point is to obscure the inputs within a somewhat trusted setup.
But who would benefit from this kind of privacy? Well, large exchanges whose wallets are publicly marked should really explore the tech.

It was a special situation, but it marked a narrative change where the nodes are in control while the miners only do their hashing and block organization.
However, Taproot was activated by miners with blessing from the users (nodes). So the UASF tradition isn’t quite strong 😅
Because on the same day the BCH fork took place and it was somewhat symbolic. Also, Bitmain (the biggest supporter of BCH) moved to secure the new chain with some of its machines and posed less of an opposition.
At the time, it was rumored that they enabled an ASIC boost that made their miners more efficient and SegWit would remove this advantage. I’m not so sure if it was true, because post-fork there wasn’t a significant change in hash rate.
Tldr: a lot of ugly politics and suspicions of malevolence, which divided the community.
The miners failed to reach the majority required to activate it, so the node operators (users) did.

You don’t understand the difference between tweets that are meant to trigger people and the BIP procedure which has been followed all along.
But yes, the miners can activate soft forks and have done it every time with the exception of SegWit.
What is the current state of the Drivechains proposal (BIP 300 + 301)?
In S14 E13 of the Bitcoin Takeover podcast, Paul Sztorc explains how he paid nostr:npub1lh273a4wpkup00stw8dzqjvvrqrfdrv2v3v4t8pynuezlfe5vjnsnaa9nk to formalize the proposal and reached an agreement to receive in-depth criticism from nostr:npub1ej493cmun8y9h3082spg5uvt63jgtewneve526g7e2urca2afrxqm3ndrm .
The soft fork won’t be attempted for activation until everything is scrutinized and formalized according to the rigors of the BIP process.

What is merged mining and who invented it?
According to Paul Sztorc in S14 E13 of the Bitcoin Takeover podcast, it was Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney who first created merged mining in order to allow Namecoin to be secured by the Bitcoin miners.
My 5 hour-long interview with Paul is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts & YouTube. If you want to better understand Drivechains and the intentions behind the proposal, check it out.

In S14 E9 of the Bitcoin Takeover podcast, @lopp explains the difference between a multisig and Shamir Secret Sharing (SLIP 39).
He argues that Shamir must be reconstructed under a single signature and nobody can know which shares have made the transaction. In comparison, multisig publishes all signatures on the public blockchain and therefore grants the owner of the coins more auditability.
