The script comes from the Android Open Source Project. It wasn't written by GrapheneOS. It's the same flashing script used for the Pixel stock OS factory images and other devices.
GrapheneOS has fixed multiple issues with it including not handling spaces in the path, missing device model check, missing fastboot version check on Windows, unsafe handling of firmware flashing when mixed with anti-rollback fuses, erasing additional persistent state, etc. We didn't redo the rest of it yet.

Our web installer and the fastboot.js library it uses were created for GrapheneOS rather than being repurposed for it from an existing project. Those have proper error checking.
Android's factory images flashing script is a thin wrapper around the command-line fastboot tool which doesn't do adequate error checking and has overly noisy output reporting a bunch of unnecessary warnings/errors.
It doesn't make sense for us to expend a lot of effort on this since we have the web install.

Our previous Camera app release moved away from using deprecated Parcel APIs. These new APIs were introduced in Android 13, but some had a serious bug in Android 13 causing a null pointer exception. They fixed that in Android 14 where we do most testing.

GrapheneOS has a list of security requirements for future devices based on the status quo of the current generation devices we support:
https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices
Other than security patches, hardware memory tagging support is easily the most important feature on this list.
Our previous thread wasn't federating properly and most instances were only getting the first 2 of 14 posts. We had to post it again a few times trying to resolve the problem.
The last configuration change and Mastodon server restart appears to have resolved it, if you can consider disabling an important anti-abuse feature resolving it.
We'd appreciate if people who boosted the original thread or the 2nd/3rd attempts at redoing it would undo that and boost the current working thread instead.
Multiple of our project members used to be members of a project where Jonah is the leader (Privacy Guides). They chose to leave because of his behavior. Other members of that project wrote a lot of useful content, and Jonah used the credibility gained from that for personal financial gain and to harm projects including GrapheneOS. Former members of Privacy Guides are building https://privsec.dev/ instead. Using his services is a mistake and gives him power he's going to end up abusing later.
Jonah was caught participating in a small private Signal group where attacks were regularly coordinated on GrapheneOS. One of the members of the group was a self-proclaimed fascist who repeatedly posted racist memes, holocaust denial, etc. This information was shared with Jonah and several other members of the group. They were fine with continuing to be friends with this person until a member of the group leaked screenshots and they deny knowing it. They similarly deny their blatant harassment.
The neat.computer and mstdn.party instances are being added to our federation block list. We've already added neat.chat to our federation block list on Matrix.
These servers are run by an administrator (Jonah Aragon) who is targeting one of our team members with harassment and fabricated stories. Jonah is a power mod seeking control over as many communities as possible. They have a history of abusing their position of power. Several of our team members used to be involved in projects with them.
