"You become like what you worship (Ps. 115: 4-8). Those who worship savage gods become savage. Those who worship lustful gods are consumed with lust. Those who worship the gods of covetousness become greedy, and deeply soiled with mammon-slop. And more to our current place in the story, those who worship demented gods . . . lose their minds."

Instruction from the Heidelberg Catechism:

Question #15. What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then?

Answer: One who is a true and righteous man, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, one who is also true God.

As a ChristIan, I rejoice in knowing that justice will be served, in this life or the next. Without this truth clearly taught in Scripture…it would be easy to despair.

“The hand of our God is for good on all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.” (Ezra 8:22)

Church, and then this. Praise the Lord!

Today marks the beginning of Advent!

Outside of Christ, everything is meaningless.

Apart from him there is nothing but the dark void.

He will swallow up death forever. (Isaiah 25:8)

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)

The puritan Richard Sibbes:

“Sin is an acid that mars and destroys whatever it touches. The Lord is not being a killjoy by forbidding sin; he is being a loving Saviour.” Jay Sklar

Laws always reflect the values of the lawgiver.
