These are some recent visitors to my Bupleurum. The photo showing my fingertips gives an idea of the size of these insects. It's important to plant a variety of flowers around your vegetable garden to attract a variety of beneficial insects.

I get a kick out of watching Mockingbirds harassing Blackbirds.

The cabbage is looking good!

The ability to follow a hash tag is a pretty neat feature. Following #grownostr will fill up your feed...

No. I've not heard of that. Is this supposed to help?

I just pick off the suckers as they appear. Then I trim the ends of the vines when they reach the top of the trellis.

I posted previously about how friendly Eli is and how he makes me smile. This is him.

Fusarium Wilt, Septoria Leaf Spot, and Early Blight.

Trying a new method for planting tomatoes that will hopefully reduce the likelihood of soil-borne diseases, which I have trouble with every year. Instead of planting in my regular garden beds, I'm going to plant in smart pots and use a soil-less mixture. I rolled down the top third of the pots for the initial planting and will unroll and add more planting mix as the tomatoes grow. This will solve the problem of crop rotation as well. I can replace the planting mix every year and not have to change their location, which means I won't have to move the trellis any more.

It's baffling to me that these guys can go from sitting on the water to flying, almost effortlessly.

Classic pose.

So impressive.

It's like they were posing for us.

I visited an old high school friend recently. He took me on a tour of the waterways around Georgetown, SC, where we saw lots of wildlife. The eagles seemed to be performing for us. I don't usually photograph wildlife and didn't have my camera set up the way I should have. Since then, I've made a custom setting on the camera for wildlife.

So glad I made this cold frame. I've been using it for years. It's served its purpose this spring, so I'll take it off of this bed now that the weather has warmed up and I'll put it back on in the fall.

Hyatt Lane in Cades Cove is a good spot for bird watchers. This list was clipped to a fence on April 19, the day I took this picture. We had been there the day before, and it wasn't there then.

I visited the Primitive Baptist Church in Cades Cove in eastern Tennessee today, and remembered your #taphophile post when I saw the #cemetery . The #headstone pictured below was particularly interesting. Unsurprisingly, there are different versions of how Mr. Gregory came to be murdered.

Eli adopted us about 20 months ago. He was already an adolescent when he first showed up, so we know nothing about his early life. He wouldn't let us touch him at first, but when he finally let his guard down and I was able to pet him, he turned into one of the friendliest cats I've known. Whenever he sees us, his tail goes straight up and he comes over to to give a hello leg rub. I can't help but smile every time I see him.
