listen y'all, we need to realise masking isn't the solution to everything.
i'm 100% in favour of masks, and i still mask, and yet i caught COVID twice. the second time it was (i'm almost certain, the dates line up) when i was at the hospital getting my broken nose fixed, meaning i literally couldn't wear a mask.
like even when i first went to the hospital right after breaking my nose i wore a mask with moderate pain. but during the followup when the doctor tells you "hey put that stuff up your nose and wait here a quick 15" you literally can't mask. and so i got COVID.
because you can't just tell people to mask up. like it's a good idea, but it won't solve the problem. this is *a systemic issue* and it needs to be solved in a *systemic way*.
so yeah, mask up, and try to (kindly!) ask other people to mask up too. but don't treat that as a silver bullet. we need and should ask for an actual solution.
so i'm at a concert of John Williams tunes, and the hall is large enough to justify a camera to zoom in at the players and a screen to display it. but the problem is in between shots of the orchestra are #AI-generated videos.
so from the very beginning, i was annoyed. not only did this not contribute, but it distracted me from the music. i spent most of the concert thereafter either closing my eyes to avoid getting distracted, or failing to do so and only half paying attention to the music.
but that's not the worst part.
no, the worst part is John Williams's catalogue also includes the soundtrack to Spielberg's Schindler's List.
so i, a Jew, had to sit through AI images of the Holocaust.
i legitimately almost got up and left.
imagine being so full of your prompt master geniusness that you ask the AI to depict you scenes OF THE HOLOCAUST.
imagine being an executive that cares so little about the quality of the product that you approve AI generated videos OF THE HOLOCAUST.
right before introducing the soloist of the tune, the conductor mentioned how when approached to make Schindler's List, both Spielberg and Williams thought they're not good enough for such a serious job.
but i'll tell you who did think they're good enough - the person who asked the AI to create background videos OF THE HOLOCAUST
#GenAI is just making all the bad behaviours of humans worse.
