If you go to #Chile expect expensive, western prices.

🏬 If you book hostels for the next day it will vary between 29000-36000 CLP. Ocasionally for 25000 CLP but not really in a good location.

☕ Coffee 2700 - 3900 CLP in the cheaper places, and depending on the city.

🍺 Beer 4000-4500 CLP for ~0.5l or so.

Tours are really expensive compared to the northern prices: Columbia, Peru... E.g.: The cheapest astronomical (star gazing tour) in San Pedro de Atacama is 25000 CLP/person, which is 3 hours. In Peru, you would get a whole day tour with lunch and maybe even breakfast for this price.

Why I am saying. Bogota, the capital of Columbia is not really a great city. Although it is a capital.

Tip 1: Be sure to check https://www.recorrido.cl/en if you are looking for buses beside busbud in #chile

Busbud does not always bring up all buses.

You can also check kupos.cl

Learn from our mistake! If recorrido says there are no buses in smaller towns in #chile on a certain day, there won't be!

In Columbia, there are smaller or local buses. And you can only buy tickets for them in person. So if you don't find online, you still might find in person. But it did not work for us chile.

Tip 2: Buy your tickets a day ahead.

If you plan to visit the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia...

you want to book it from Uyuni, Bolivia, and

NOT from San Pedro de Atacama,

NOT from online.

Why?

Because it will be cheaper.

So if you want to cross Chilean and Bolivian borders, you better go from Bolivia. Or somehow book the tour through a bolivian agency. The San Pedro de Atacama agencies do the same, but you will get double the price.

From San Pedro, it would have been $220/person for us, but because we booked it in Uyuni it was $230 total for 2 of us...
