Disagreeable. Prove me wrong.

Yeah. I'm not even sure you're at the stage of bootloader (GRUB) yet. Sounds like you have it installed somewhere, though.

Theoretically, your BIOS should be detecting your drive based on what is configured in the BIOS (regardless of anything actually stored on the drive, except for possibly its partition information). But, you have UEFI enabled, which is kind of like its own BIOS, so you may actually be seeing the drive through UEFI.

Actually, you said you had problems getting into BIOS - and if you are actually looking at BIOS now on a UEFI machine, you're definitely getting an incomplete picture of the system. You may need to disable Secure Boot or even disable UEFI altogether to allow Linux to have full access to your hardware. This link is kind of helpful in explaining, and has another link under the Disable Secure Boot section specific to linux installs. You may be able to find more information on Ubuntu regarding UEFI installs as well.

There's plenty to question here, like what kind of partitions are supposedly on that disk? GPT? MBR? What are you trying to detect them with? Is BitLocker in play, in your BIOS? Is UEFI enabled?

Some of this stuff that seemed pretty easy and basic 10-15 years ago has gotten pretty confusing, and older tools may not be compatible with the newer options.

Gn #nostr.

Frens, has been quite a day. More words posted and replied than in most days past.

Hopefully someone benefits.

At first I wss hoping you mrant vacuum tubes. Nothing better than retro tech.

But if you mean those disgusting things meant to clean carpets, they are a fiat joke. Carpets (made of petroleum products and plastics) were a horrible idea when they were invented, extremely unsanitary. Far better to use rugs, which can be cleaned properly, along with the floor beneath them. A well woven rug will outlast a carpet.

Then along came an imperfect fiat solution to a fiat problem - the vacuum cleaner. Sure, similar devices had been used in industrial settings, but the home version wasn't nearly as powerful, and had a new purpose - to clean carpets. Industrial models were more likely to be used on hard surfaces or tight spaces. Drawing air across a hard surface is far different than drawing air through a carpet.

Also, industrial applications had a far different exhaust system, typically outside. Home vacuums either had poorly filtered exhausts, allowing dust to come right back out, or restrictive exhausts that killed any airflow. Vacuum cleaners work generating airflow, rather than producing vacuum. Dust and dirt remain stationary in a vacuum.

Early home vacuums just exhausted into a cloth bag, which meant any particulate that could permeate the cloth generally did. Bags would actually clog with dust (which is mostly dead skin cells and organic material, especially what is in home carpet), and can be quite sticky. So clogged bags killed off airflow (clogged exhaust), and the paper filter bag inserts showed up, to make the coth bags easier to clean. The paper inserts just clogged faster, killing airflow quicker, but enough lint managed to get trapped in there to convince housewifes thst something was getting clean, while most of the dust was just getting pushed down through the carpet to sit between the carpet and the hard floor, which causes wear to the floor...

Not much has changed. The basic physics will show you that cleaning dust and dirt out of a carpet is extremely hard, and it is much more sanitary to have hard floors that can be cleaned much more easily.

So, any vacuum maxis want to go a couple rounds?

I am a huge fan of my ux flow on Primal with nos2x and alby. This probably isnt for everyone, but I like feeling in control at each stage of things, and this accomplishes that.

nos2x handles the authentication, so when I open my primal shortcut, at first nos2x popped up and asked if I wanted to allow primal to use my public key. I was able to allow this forever, so now Im not prompted in my primary desktop browser.

I can view my main feed, but if I want to interact with a note, nos2x pops up to ask if I want it to sign that particular even type with my private key. It never hands my private key to Primal.

I've allowed a few specific event types to always sign, but special things like zaps...

if I zap a post, I get the signing notification from nos2x, which I allow one time, very intentionally, because I dont want anything able to auto-zap without my explicit permission. then Alby pops up and has me confirm the amount - which I also like, because my default amount is pretty low, and if I decide ro zap more, I just cancel it there and zap again with a larger amount.

This works like a double approval on anything that involves money, and at least a single approval on anything posted.

Sure, there are things I wish Primal did, and actually Snort works the same way, so I go to Snort sometimes if I want to do something Primal cant do. And the same approval and two-stage approval happens there too.

I'm hoping eventually nsecbunker will make this somewhat similar on my other devices, phone, laptop, whatever. but this is a great start.

Because I didnt tag products in the original note, might as well do it here. Good things were said about #nos2x, #primal, #alby, #snort.

And this is my first note on #Florisboard, after not really enjoying Anysoft keyboard. So far this feels better. I'm a few weeks early to #GrapheneOS ahead of those coming from fruity phones (I came from stock Pixel), so maybe more good product posts will be more helpful now. Pixel + Graphene + #Onyx (or #Amethyst) is a pretty solid place to start.

Does Primal not have boost? Was hoping to boost something earlier, but was only able to repost?

Also - for Primal (and others), could really use a way to block reposts and/or boosts from the main feed. Seeing the same note 20x is a bit much.

OK, so most of my media content playing happens on a desktop (presently running Windows 11. working towards running Debian.)

I don't want UToob. So, how to watch podcasts (definitely prefer video podcasts). I have bitcointv.com, goodmorningbitcoin.com, twitch.com/bitcointvchannel .

Was hoping maybe Fountain, but apparently that is only for fonez. I don't liek fonez. Not for watching or listening to things on leetle hedfonez or teeny skreenz!

Other ideaz?

HTMLed and then VI (not VIM). Occasionally Pico or Nano. I do admit to using Netscape Composer and then Dreamweaver at times. WYSIWYGs are good for learning new ways of doing things, sometimes.

(not a web designer. This should not be taken as website design advice)

gn #nostr fam!

got quite a lot done today. trying a new pw mgr.

ask me about alienation and isolation. really feels like a recurring theme in my life. these are not happy thoughts. but without some clouds there would be nothing for the sun to hide behind.

also thinking - what do carnivores mainly eat in India, especially if they are Hindu?

no, because they are not meat or animal-based. I don't see much nutritional need for this.

2 months today since my last nicotine. 2 months and a week since my last alcohol. only occasional sporadic sugars since Easter. Haven't touched coffee yet, I don't think its any real concern, and it puts some flavor in my water.

gn #nostr, may peace be with you all!

before I quit smoking, usually for abour 50 minutes, then 10 minutes to go outside and smoke. now, if I take those breaks, they involve coffee or protein, but they are less frequent.

the bad part is I often do that for 10-11 hours, could easily go 18 or more without a reason to stop.
