How do you work?

Personally, I usually work in bursts of 20 mins to 1 hour with many breaks. Sometimes when I’m in the zone I can go 4-6 hours without a break or noticing how much time has gone by. That’s usually the day where I design 80% (crappy first run) version of an app.

Usually 1 hour and a break

Tried Pomodoro for a while, which is 25 min bursts with 5 min breaks. I can go for 2 hours solid if I have no distractions. But I really like getting up and walking around once an hour.

I could never make timers work for me. My brain cannot function by a timer 😂

Early morning, directly after lunch, and late evenings. Those are my best work times.

Same here!

Not dizzy after lunch?

Whether 20 mins or 1 hours or 6 hours. One thing I need is background music. If not I feel like my brain got fried. Music to my working time, is like water cooling to GPUs. 🤪

I watch this video then just go at it https://youtu.be/ZXsQAXx_ao0

I try to finish it on paper without any code written in one go and after that same as you.

It’s called being in a flow state (doing something without noticing time passing, as you described) and it’s great when you can achieve it! 🧡

I have an absolute casual timeframes, breaks are more incidental interruptions related to project management activities than the actual need of rest. But it is not unusual to have 4-6 hours of good flow when programming; designing usually requires more compact times to close a session.

So I work best when no one is around, early morning or night.

Nostr time zone madness make all this a bit funky :D

It's me, testing a client and forgot I was on a burning account haha

Similar. I do emotion driven programming

Well that’s why chatgpt will replace us all

Emotion driven?

Code when I feel good and totally malfunction when feeling down

30m, meeting, 30m, meeting, meeting, meeting, lunch, 30m, meeting, 30m, meeting, 30m, meeting…

peak performance 🥴

😞

I couldn't deal with that.

Not dev related but, I work 12-15 hours on my feet. I hover over a well and shake/stir drinks all night. 🍻

I hope to show you guys soon. Maybe if I ever figure out how to live stream on Nostr.

Same! 🐶🐾🫂😅

before I quit smoking, usually for abour 50 minutes, then 10 minutes to go outside and smoke. now, if I take those breaks, they involve coffee or protein, but they are less frequent.

the bad part is I often do that for 10-11 hours, could easily go 18 or more without a reason to stop.

If I'm on a project I'm passionate about, I leave space-time and come back after 3-4 hours. If I'm in the office, it depends on how often others want to interrupt me 😅

Very similar to your mode. But my productivity lacks consistency very much. Each day is basically different depending on the schedule and tasks.

Somehow it works best if I match my current energy level with the task complexity (email => low energy, when tired & hard engineering => high energy, sometimes in flow state)
