Honestly NYC probably should defund the police.
The main value police bring is separating criminals from the rest of society but NY judges don’t actually hand out real sentences when criminals are convicted so police are largely just wasting their time and a government employee wasting their time is a waste of tax payer dollars

Imagine if instead of selling 3 million acres of the west to build housing we simply enforced laws and made our rotting beautiful city housing stock desirable again

Here’s the hard truth: The national debt is too far gone. It will never be balanced for hundreds of reasons. Any politician unwilling to pass a bill to beef up border security/deportation efforts (yes they’re full of BS but it doesn’t matter) in the name of balancing the budget or reducing the debt is playing a game blinded by principles
