If the drive letters change, then you could use fstab to always mount it in the same directory. Then use an if statement to check to see if that directory has contents.

Honestly, my biggest problem with KDE Plasma (outside of the general bugs), is that when a windows spawns it does so in a random place. Even changing the expected window behavior doesn't get the window to spawn under the mouse like I asked.
