I am happy to have stopped and keep on stoping nuclear war/s, drones (they were so annoying), modern weapons and hopefully soon injustice.
What are going to do if you know that the world is ending? What are going to do when the major signs appear? Hide in a bunker? Watch the TV? Play video games etc.?
How about thinking a bit further?
We are all going to die whether it’s the end of the world or not. Successively, we are all going to be questioned about what we did during our lives and that will determine where we are going to spend the eternity, paradise or hellfire (although having a place in paradise is because of God’s mercy). Personally, I thank God that I knew about my gifts and that they were the warning for me for the approaching of Judgement Day, that I had and still have time to pray, to warn others and most of all to repent.
"And the most evil affairs are their innovations"
"وَشَرُّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا"
During the past years, especially after 2019, I have started to notice the use of the word innovation as something rejected by Islam and an element used by western countries to attack Islam. I have mentioned above a part of a Hadith of prophet Mohamed peace be upon him and how it’s often translated in English. However, from the full Hadith in the following, it can be understood that the context intended is innovations in Religion, not in inventions or scientific discoveries (the term used in Arabic literally means something new/update. Like I said the context regards the Islamic religion).
ا خلال السنوات الماضية، وخاصة بعد عام 2019، بدأت ألاحظ استخدام كلمة المستحدثات innovation كشيء مرفوض في الإسلام وعنصر تستخدمه الدول الغربية لمهاجمة الإسلام. لقد ذكرت أعلاه جزءًا من حديث للنبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وكيف يتم ترجمته غالبًا إلى اللغة الإنجليزية. والحديث الكامل في ما يلي، ويمكن منه فهم أن السياق المقصود هو الاستحداث في الدين، وليس الاختراعات أو الاكتشافات العلمية (المصطلح المستخدم في اللغة العربية يعني حرفيًا شيئًا جديدًا / محدثًا. و لكن كما كتبت فإن السياق يتعلق بالدين الإسلامي).
حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا خَطَبَ احْمَرَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ وَعَلَا صَوْتُهُ وَاشْتَدَّ غَضَبُهُ حَتَّی کَأَنَّهُ مُنْذِرُ جَيْشٍ يَقُولُ صَبَّحَکُمْ وَمَسَّاکُمْ وَيَقُولُ بُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَالسَّاعَةُ کَهَاتَيْنِ وَيَقْرُنُ بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيْهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَی وَيَقُولُ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الْحَدِيثِ کِتَابُ اللَّهِ وَخَيْرُ الْهُدَی هُدَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَشَرُّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا وَکُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَنَا أَوْلَی بِکُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ مَنْ تَرَکَ مَالًا فَلِأَهْلِهِ وَمَنْ تَرَکَ دَيْنًا أَوْ ضَيَاعًا فَإِلَيَّ وَعَلَيَّ
Translation:Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) said: When Allahs Messenger (may peace he upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose. And his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying:" The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too." He would also say:" The last Hour and I have been sent like these two." and he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say:" The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error." He would further say: "I am more dear to a Muslim even than his self; and he who left behind property that is for his family, and he who dies under debt or leaves children (in helplessness), the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me."
As mentioned in my previous posts, seeking knowledge is highly recognized and religiously rewarded in Islam. And by doing so it’s normal to reach new discoveries or inventions (machines etc.); it’s a responsibility though to ensure that new discoveries don’t cause harm and that God’s limits are respected by the scientists or the people using it.
كما ذكرت في كتاباتي السابقة، فإن طلب العلم مستحب و له جزاءاً حسناً دينياً في الإسلام. ومن الطبيعي أن يؤدي طلب العلم إلى اكتشافات أو اختراعات جديدة (آلات وما إلى ذلك مستحدثة)؛ لكن من الواجب أن نضمن ألا تسبب الاكتشافات الجديدة ضررًا ومراعاة حدود الله من قبل العلماء أو الأشخاص الذين يستخدمونها.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ :" الْعُلَمَاءُ ثَلَاثَةٌ : فَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَعَاشَ مَعَهُ النَّاسُ فِيهِ، وَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَلَمْ يَعِشْ مَعَهُ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ، وَرَجُلٌ عَاشَ النَّاسُ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَكَانَ وَبَالًا عَلَيْهِ "
We were told by Suleiman bin Harb, Hammad bin Zaid told us, about Ayyub, about Abu Qibala, he said: Abu Muslim Al-Khulani said: “People of knowledge are three: a man who lived in his knowledge and people lived with him in it, and a man lived in his knowledge and no one lived with him, and a man who in his knowledge lived people and was a curse on him.”
Prophet Mohamed peace be upon him wore Byzantine cloak, that was something new made by non-Muslims.
Al-Mughira b. Shu'ba said the Prophet wore a Byzantine cloak with narrow sleeves.

سيدنا محمد عليه الصلاة و السلام ارتدي جبة رومية و هي كانت مصنعة من غير المسلمين و مستحدثة علي الجبة التقليدية.
وَعَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَبِسَ جُبَّةً رُومِيَّةً ضَيِّقَةَ الْكُمَّيْنِ.
In the verses in the following mentioning prophet David peace be upon him and that God taught him to make armors; that was something new (an example of an industrial innovative).
وفي الآيات التالية التي تذكر بالنبي داود عليه السلام وأن الله علمه صناعة الدروع، كان ذلك شيئاً جديداً (مثالاً على الاستحداث او الابتكار الصناعي).
21:79 Al-Anbiyaa
فَفَهَّمْنَاهَا سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ وَكُلًّا آتَيْنَا حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا ۚ وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُودَ الْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَ ۚ وَكُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ
And We gave understanding of the case to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].
21:80 Al-Anbiyaa
وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُمْ مِنْ بَأْسِكُمْ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ شَاكِرُونَ
And We taught him the making of coats of armor to protect you from your [enemy in] battle. So will you then be grateful?
Knowledge and observation of the surroundings is a way to reason to find the signs of God in everything that is around that he created as in the following verse.
إن معرفة وملاحظة ما يحيط بنا هو وسيلة للتفكير لإيجاد علامات الله في كل ما هو حولنا مما خلقه كما في الاية التالية.
22:46 Al-Hajj
أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ يَعْقِلُونَ بِهَا أَوْ آذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۖ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى الْأَبْصَارُ وَلَٰكِنْ تَعْمَى الْقُلُوبُ الَّتِي فِي الصُّدُورِ
So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.
In some cases the same sentence, "And the most evil affairs are their innovations", is used to deny the signs of God showed by me. And in this regard I recommend admitting the signs witnessed that have mentioning in prophet Mohamed Hadith, peace be upon him, anyways and that means that they are not something new or innovative religious-wise without making assumptions about what can happen in the future or things that are still unclear.
وفي بعض الأحيان تستخدم نفس الجملة "وَشَرُّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا" لنفي آيات الله التي أظهرتها، وفي هذا الصدد أوصي بالاعتراف و عدم التكذيب بالعلامات التي شاهدتموها والتي ورد ذكرها في أحاديث النبي محمد عليه الصلاة والسلام على كل حال فهي ليست مستحدثة من الناحية الدينية أو بدعة دون افتراض ما يمكن أن يحدث في المستقبل أو أشياء لا تزال غير واضحة.
From metropolitan stories, I know that there are people that get around only to hurt even by things that seem to be temporarily pleasant, such as sex and drugs. They can become both addictive especially when religious limits are not respected at all and they are a social problem in many countries even in some Muslim countries.
In Islam, there is nothing wrong to enjoy sex with the spouse as long as God’s limits in regards are respected, the spouses have the responsibility to please one another as it’s their right and to have it with only one partner is sufficient most of the times and also advised in the Quran although a man can have more than one wife if one is not sufficient while keeping in mind treating them fairly; love included.
However, drugs are under the category of intoxications to be forbidden like alcoholic drinks in Islam because they take away the gift of rational reasoning and being able to make a choice. Even if many types of drugs promise being awake for longer, enhanced physical performance and concentration, they have devastating effects on the long run; the exact opposites. Suffering from addiction can happen to anyone, it’s about being in a bad company while being eluded by the initial effects after the first try and the insistence to try again and so on until the body doesn’t produce its natural needs (so the urge to consume artificial substances becomes a necessity).
It’s an illness although the person might look in good health. To heal, a person needs to have an initiative to do so, to express worries, talk about difficulties that might be faced and it could be helpful to have someone that cares to get the person out of any type of addiction.
I advise to read the Quran for one hour a day and Chapter 4 of Sahih Al-Bukhari, Ablutions (Wudu')

Suspended buildings and infrastructures etc. are turned into marbles 1 cm distant from each other (this distance will increase by 1 cm everyday).
In Islam, seeking knowledge is one of the rewarded deeds to spend time and teaching or spreading knowledge is religiously rewarded even after death as mentioned in the following verses and Hadith.
في الإسلام يعد طلب العلم من الاعمال المجزية لقضاء الوقت، كما أن تعليم العلم أو نشره له أجر ديني حتى بعد الموت كما هو مذكور في الآيات والأحاديث التالية.
58:11 Al-Mujaadila
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمْ تَفَسَّحُوا فِي الْمَجَالِسِ فَافْسَحُوا يَفْسَحِ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا قِيلَ انْشُزُوا فَانْشُزُوا يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
O you who have believed, when you are told, "Space yourselves" in assemblies, then make space; Allah will make space for you. And when you are told, "Arise," then arise; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
وَقُلْ رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
حَدَّثَنَا الْمَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " يُقْبَضُ الْعِلْمُ، وَيَظْهَرُ الْجَهْلُ وَالْفِتَنُ، وَيَكْثُرُ الْهَرْجُ ". قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا الْهَرْجُ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا بِيَدِهِ، فَحَرَّفَهَا، كَأَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ الْقَتْلَ.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "(Religious) knowledge will be taken away, ignorance and inflictions will appear; and Harj will increase." It was asked, "What is Harj, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?" He replied by beckoning with his hand indicating "killing."
وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: “إذا مات الأنسان انقطع عمله إلا من ثلاث: صدقة جارية، أو علم ينتفع به، أو ولد صالح يدعو له" ((رواه مسلم)).
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge by which people derive benefit, pious son who prays for him."
حدیث:67
لِقَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ فَبَدَأَ بِالْعِلْمِ، وَأَنَّ الْعُلَمَاءَ هُمْ وَرَثَةُ الأَنْبِيَاءِ- وَرَّثُوا الْعِلْمَ- مَنْ أَخَذَهُ أَخَذَ بِحَظٍّ وَافِرٍ، وَمَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَطْلُبُ بِهِ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ. وَقَالَ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ: إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ وَقَالَ: وَمَا يَعْقِلُهَا إِلاَّ الْعَالِمُونَ، وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ. وَقَالَ: هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ. وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ، وَإِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ بِالتَّعَلُّمِ. وَقَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ لَوْ وَضَعْتُمُ الصَّمْصَامَةَ عَلَى هَذِهِ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى قَفَاهُ- ثُمَّ ظَنَنْتُ أَنِّي أُنْفِذُ كَلِمَةً سَمِعْتُهَا مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُجِيزُوا عَلَيَّ لأَنْفَذْتُهَا. وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: كُونُوا رَبَّانِيِّينَ حُكَمَاءَ فُقَهَاءَ. وَيُقَالُ الرَّبَّانِيُّ الَّذِي يُرَبِّي النَّاسَ بِصِغَارِ الْعِلْمِ قَبْلَ كِبَارِهِ.
Because God Almighty said: “Know that there is no god but God.” So He began with knowledge, and that the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets - they inherited knowledge - whoever takes it will take a great portion, and whoever takes a path seeking knowledge, God will make easy for him a path to Paradise. And He, the Most High, said: “Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge.” And He said: “None understands it except those who have knowledge.” And they said: “If only we had listened or reasoned, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.” And He said: “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever Allah wants good for, He gives him understanding of the religion. Knowledge is acquired through learning.” Abu Dharr said: “If you were to place the sword on this” – and he pointed to the back of his head – “then I thought that I would carry out a word I heard from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, before you approved of it, I would carry it out.” Ibn Abbas said: Be rabbis, wise jurists. It is said that a rabbi is the one who educates people with the small aspects of knowledge before the big ones.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ـ هُوَ ابْنُ سَلاَمٍ ـ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ، قَالَ قَالَ عَامِرٌ الشَّعْبِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " ثَلاَثَةٌ لَهُمْ أَجْرَانِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ آمَنَ بِنَبِيِّهِ، وَآمَنَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَالْعَبْدُ الْمَمْلُوكُ إِذَا أَدَّى حَقَّ اللَّهِ وَحَقَّ مَوَالِيهِ، وَرَجُلٌ كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ أَمَةٌ {يَطَؤُهَا} فَأَدَّبَهَا، فَأَحْسَنَ تَأْدِيبَهَا، وَعَلَّمَهَا فَأَحْسَنَ تَعْلِيمَهَا، ثُمَّ أَعْتَقَهَا فَتَزَوَّجَهَا، فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ ".
ثُمَّ قَالَ عَامِرٌ أَعْطَيْنَاكَهَا بِغَيْرِ شَىْءٍ، قَدْ كَانَ يُرْكَبُ فِيمَا دُونَهَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ.
Narrated Abu Burda's father:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said "Three persons will have a double reward:
1. A Person from the people of the scriptures who believed in his prophet (Jesus or Moses) and then believed in the Prophet (ﷺ) Muhammad (i .e. has embraced Islam).
2. A slave who discharges his duties to Allah and his master.
3. A master of a woman-slave who teaches her good manners and educates her in the best possible way (the religion) and manumits her and then marries her."

There many examples of Muslim scientists, mathematicians, writers and inventors that their works are still taught at school or universities today and I would like to mention Al-Khwarizmi who produced vastly influential Arabic-language works in mathematics, astronomy, and geography. Algebra and Algorithms were both introduced by him.

Also, many people subscribe to YouTube channels because it’s for free.
3:14 Aal-i-Imraan
زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ الشَّهَوَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْبَنِينَ وَالْقَنَاطِيرِ الْمُقَنْطَرَةِ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَالْخَيْلِ الْمُسَوَّمَةِ وَالْأَنْعَامِ وَالْحَرْثِ ۗ ذَٰلِكَ مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَاللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ حُسْنُ الْمَآبِ
Beautified for people is the love of what they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.
3:15 Aal-i-Imraan
قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ مِنْ ذَٰلِكُمْ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَاجٌ مُطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَانٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِالْعِبَادِ
Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allah. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants -
3:16 Aal-i-Imraan
الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Those who say, "Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,"
3:17 Aal-i-Imraan
الصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْمُنْفِقِينَ وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالْأَسْحَارِ
The patient, the true, the obedient, those who spend [in the way of Allah], and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.
Many of you might know that most Muslim people pray only five times a day (not all the day, although reading Quran is a daily habit of many of them). We also fast only one month a year and while following the Sunnah (habits) of prophet Mohamed we can fast Mondays, Thursdays and few other days (we don’t fast everyday). And to enter paradise it is enough to do what’s mentioned in the following Hadith of prophet Mohamed peace be upon him:
Abu Huraira reported that an Arab came to the Prophet and said, "Guide me to a deed by doing which I shall enter paradise.” He said, “Worship God and associate nothing with Him, observe the prescribed prayer, pay the obligatory zakat, and fast during Ramadan.” He replied, "By Him in whose hand my soul is, I shall not add anything to this, or fall short of it.” Then when he turned away the Prophet said, "If anyone wishes to look at a man who will be among the people of paradise, let him look at this man.”

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: أَتَى أَعْرَابِيٌّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: دُلَّنِي عَلَى عَمَلٍ إِذَا عَمِلْتُهُ دَخَلْتُ الْجَنَّةَ. قَالَ: «تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ» . قَالَ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَى هَذَا شَيْئًا وَلَا أَنْقُصُ مِنْهُ. فَلَمَّا وَلَّى قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجنَّة فَلْينْظر إِلَى هَذَا»
I have learned form the following Hadith (as well as others) that we must give God, ourselves and our families their rights:
Ubu Juhaifah narrated from his father who said:
"The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) made a bond of brotherhood between Salman and Abu Ad-Darda. Salman went to visit Abu Ad-Darda, and saw Umm Ad-Darda wearing shabby clothes, So he said: 'Why are you wearing such shabby clothes?' She said: 'Your brother Abu Ad-Darda has no interest in the world.' So when Abu Ad-Darda arrived, he prepared some food for him (Salman) and said: 'Eat, for I am fasting.' He said: 'I shall not eat until you eat.'" He said: "So he ate. When night came Abu Ad-Darda started to leave and stand (in prayer), but Salman said to him: 'Sleep.' So he slept. Then he went to stand (in prayer) but he said to him: 'Sleep'. So he slept. When the morning (Fajr) came,Salman said: 'Get up now.'So he got up to perform Salat. Then he (Salman) said: 'Indeed your self has a right upon you, your Lord has a right upon you, your guest has a right upon you, and your family has a right upon you. So give each the right they are due. The Prophet (s.a.w), and that was mentioned to him, so he said: 'Salman has told the truth.'"
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعُمَيْسِ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ آخَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَيْنَ سَلْمَانَ وَبَيْنَ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَزَارَ سَلْمَانُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَرَأَى أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ مُتَبَذِّلَةً فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكِ مُتَبَذِّلَةً قَالَتْ إِنَّ أَخَاكَ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ لَيْسَ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا . قَالَ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهِ طَعَامًا فَقَالَ كُلْ فَإِنِّي صَائِمٌ . قَالَ مَا أَنَا بِآكِلٍ حَتَّى تَأْكُلَ . قَالَ فَأَكَلَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ ذَهَبَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ لِيَقُومَ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَلْمَانُ نَمْ . فَنَامَ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يَقُومُ فَقَالَ لَهُ نَمْ . فَنَامَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عِنْدَ الصُّبْحِ قَالَ لَهُ سَلْمَانُ قُمِ الآنَ فَقَامَا فَصَلَّيَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ لِنَفْسِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا وَلِرَبِّكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا وَلِضَيْفِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ لأَهْلِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا فَأَعْطِ كُلَّ ذِي حَقٍّ حَقَّهُ . فَأَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَا ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ " صَدَقَ سَلْمَانُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ . وَأَبُو الْعُمَيْسِ اسْمُهُ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ أَخُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ .
Monasticism wasn’t prescribed for any and even the prophets including the last prophet Mohamed peace be upon him had wives and families as mentioned in the following verses:
13:38 Ar-Ra'd
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً ۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendants. And it was not for a messenger to come with a sign except by permission of Allah. For every term is a decree.
57:27 Al-Hadid
ثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْإِنْجِيلَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ رَأْفَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ابْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَاهَا عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللَّهِ فَمَا رَعَوْهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَا ۖ فَآتَيْنَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ
Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.

However, wasting time on distractions (such as music, playing video games or even practicing sports excessively) that keeps away from mentioning God is also a reason for calamities or hardships in life:
21:1 Al-Anbiyaa
اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ مُعْرِضُونَ
[The time of] their account has approached for the people, while they are in heedlessness turning away.
21:2 Al-Anbiyaa
مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا اسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
No mention comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play
21:3 Al-Anbiyaa
لَاهِيَةً قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَأَسَرُّوا النَّجْوَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا هَلْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ ۖ أَفَتَأْتُونَ السِّحْرَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ
With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?"

In the following verses prophet Solomon peace be upon him asked for forgiveness because of getting distracted from mentioning God:
38:30 Saad
وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُودَ سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ
And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].
38:31 Saad
إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ
[Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.
38:32 Saad
فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
38:33 Saad
رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
38:34 Saad
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَانَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ
And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned.
38:35 Saad
قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

At the same time in some occasions distractions or entertainments are allowed as in the following Hadith:
It was narrated that 'Amir bin Sa'd said:
"I entered upon Qurazah bin Ka'b and Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari during a wedding and there were some young girls singing. I said: 'You are two of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah who were present at Badr, and this is being done in your presence!' They said: 'Sit down if you want and listen with us, or if you want you can go away. We were granted a concession allowing entertainment at weddings.'"
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى قَرَظَةَ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَأَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ فِي عُرْسٍ وَإِذَا جَوَارٍ يُغَنِّينَ فَقُلْتُ أَنْتُمَا صَاحِبَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَمِنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ يُفْعَلُ هَذَا عِنْدَكُمْ . فَقَالاَ اجْلِسْ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَاسْمَعْ مَعَنَا وَإِنْ شِئْتَ اذْهَبْ قَدْ رُخِّصَ لَنَا فِي اللَّهْوِ عِنْدَ الْعُرْسِ .
Finally, Halal (lawful/allowed) and Haram (unlawful/forbidden) things are described in the Quran and Hadith. We can’t as Muslims say that something is Halal or Haram unless there is a verse of the Quran or Sahih (correct) Hadith sustaining what we say. However, there are also also things that are Mustahab (loved or good to do) or Makroh (hated or better not to do) and we can’t change their degree to make declare them as Halal (lawful/allowed) or Haram (unlawful/forbidden).
16:116 An-Nahl
وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ الْكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَالٌ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِتَفْتَرُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ
And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, "This is Halal (lawful) and this is Haram (unlawful)," to invent falsehood about Allah. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed.
Accumulating money is not everything. Dedicating life thinking about money is how many people waste their lives.
