I think of myself as an old hillbilly hippie. I've had several careers: Physics, personal counseling, computer science/software development. Unix/Linux. Now I'm an old retired guy. I read a LOT. I think of myself as a liberal progressive politically. Some people know me as KB6QL. I love the Grateful Dead. I love Gracie Slick. I also love the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. I have loved their work for more than 50 years. Oxford comma. Born at 310ppm CO2. Whatever/whatever

Not too good for everyone on holiday. Typically, the sun will return in August when everyone is back at work. This has been a pattern for years now, along with the climate changing. Some people have started to suggest moving the holiday month.

It's funny how difficult it is to change social conventions.

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 Yep. There was a huge debate in the UK press about it last winter, because the gas prices were so high and people couldn't afford the heating bills. One of the things mentioned were that they really have to start insulating houses better.

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

Interesting. That's been a focus here. Lots more insulation now than in the past.

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 Everyone I know who have lived in the UK were horribly shocked at how cold their buildings are in winter. And their winters are a lot milder than ours😆

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 The big difference between Norway and UK is that our buildings are very well insulated because of the harsh winters. A side effect of that is of course that they don't let in much heat in summer either. So it's usually enough to have a draft going through the apartment and the temperature will be ok. Saying that; when the climate change gets even worse, air conditioning will probably start becoming normal here as well. UK buildings generally have terrible insulation or none at all!

Interesting. I didn't know that.

Yep, that's true. Most of the Scandinavians who moved to North America ended up in the northern climes. And it's because of that genetic difference. I hadn't thought about you having that for some reason.

Fans are something that you get used to. You just have to use them for a while and then they don't bother you anymore. Turns out AC is the same way.

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

I had a huge argument with my friend in the UK last summer. When they went up to 40C. They had no fan. No air conditioning. No nothing. And we're convinced that fans were terrible because they made too much noise and you couldn't even think around them. And they were also dirty. I had to argue for weeks to get them to get a fan to protect themselves during that temperature.

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 I blame my ancestors. Us blue eyed vikings aren't genetically prepared for heat. Snow storm? That's fine, no problem at all😂 I do actually have a fan, but it just gives me sinus ache🤪

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 We had a maximum of 35C in June, I think. Terrible🥵 July has been around 15-25C.

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

On the other hand, you guys aren't prepared for hot weather at all there. Do you have a fan, btw?

Well Simon, if I didn't know about you, I would be sitting here making all kinds of horrible cracks about weenies I know. But I won't. See what a nice guy I am!

So, why do you think that they want to destroy the English language by eliminating all of the irregular verbs? How could that be? Why would anybody want to do that?

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

It's been so hot and dry here that I've been having to water my trees because they're beginning to drop leaves.

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

A chat with a friend in the UK on Ham radio. Five nights a week typically and I don't think they have hit 20c all summer. Their highest has been around 18 or 19C

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

Nobody does well at 40c temperatures. I do great at around 30-32c.

nostr:npub17sha6ku2fxgt7k268u5kedl5pn25dqrd6v9eqem7kj3s2248mnfs7x6e06 🥵🥵🥵 I would not do well in that heat, I'll take rain and 20C any day😆 The eastern parts of Norway got it really bad yesterday though. 45mm of rain in one hour!😳 That's like the normal average for two months around here.

nostr:npub13ft3erhfetupawg5trykfkdjps7npam6fa97z3h603xq0c5fwy8qxmq8u2

Now Simon, everyone says you are such hot stuff!

@Joziendewit

So it's broken for some of us and still working for others.

I set my translation agent to FediLab. Did you? I tried changing it to two of the others, but it still failed.
