I've got a bunch of non-technical people on Graphene and they don't even notice it's not Google Android. Graphene manages to retain Google Play services compatibility while removing its root access and forcing it to conform to normal permission system. On Google Android the permission system for anything involving play services is completely meaningless, play services has root access to your phone. The only thing you won't be able to do is Android Auto because there is no way to do Android Auto without giving it root access.
It's not like the old days of Android custom ROMs. Graphene is a professionally maintained, reliable, and easy to use Android based OS. I highly recommend it.

Deployed Satellite update:
- Implemented encrypted direct messages
- Added support for handling NIP-27 mentions
- Significant performance optimizations for front page feed and elsewhere
- Fixed super annoying problem with sometimes losing your scroll position when navigating back to the main feed on mobile
Next week's update will include user search, improvements to the UI for inserting mentions, additional features for managing your following list, and a global post button.
