Gorgeous color! Question: are you canning the puree? Asking bc I thought you needed to can pumpkin in chunks?

Today's project: diagnose where the leak is in the player piano.

It's dark outside but the oven is on and a fresh and warm carrot cake with chopped dates and walnuts sure sounded good for tea time.

Finally made it to our Patagonia spot after a long journey south! Arrived at 2am on a Saturday, carefully de-rigged the kayak from my truck, and crossed the high-water river in pitch darkness to reach our place.

What greeted me was wild - trees down everywhere on the property! One crashed onto our shed, but thankfully the dome stayed intact. Nature had definitely been busy while we were gone.

First week was pure manual labor - clearing brush and getting camp operational again. Used the low water days strategically to ferry across new materials and solar panels.

Major win: our dome weathered everything perfectly. No mold, no mice, all locks intact. Pretty impressive for being alone in the wilderness!

Daily life here is... different. I work my day job from the computer (turns out being on a remote island is great for productivity) Then tackle camp projects during dawn and dusk. For me itโ€™s a perfect balance.

But here's where it got intense... One morning I discovered our Cataraft - our lifeline for materials - had broken free and was heading straight for 15km of Class 5 rapids! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Talk about luck - a friend spotted it caught in trees 1km downstream. Immediately grabbed my kayak and raced to the rescue. Found it tangled in branches, still loaded with milled wood!

The dome's becoming quite the paradox - running water, electricity, comfy futon sofas right in the middle of the wilderness. From tents to a functional house in just a season. Feeling proud and grateful.

Now pivoting attention to installing new solar panels and breaking ground on 2 smaller bedroom domes for friends and family. Summer's looking epic! Can't wait to keep building and soaking in this incredible place. ๐ŸŒž

whoa that kind of morning chasing your raft will get your heart going! glad that ended well

Messing around on copy paper for my art journaling. Power's been out. My art and crafts don't generally require electricity.

nostr:npub17nvfw7g53nxjghyd2zg552z06cke0jc0k69hj7ns7f9pw26j9kusap4u85 is always buggin me for food pictures, and this is why i never post them. stewed foods all look the same. You cant tell there are pumpkin, apple, and onion pieces, with natural sourdough dumplings, corn, emmer, and yellow lentils all slow cooked in beef stock over a wood stove, but my face hole can. think what you want. im busy eating this deliciousness.

Progress. The ribbing is done and now to the body. This will be an experimental and no doubt wonky sweater; my goal is to use up all the scraps of yarn in my stash. I have zero idea how this will turn out.

Finished making a little book. Little indoor handcrafts make me so happy.

My latest write up is on using herbs for sleep. Do you have any experience doing that?

Surprise visit from the county assessor/resident appraiser. It was so off putting to show up uninvited on my property, and he plainly couldn't understand why. I pointed to his wedding ring and asked him, "So you're ok with complete strangers showing up out of the blue and uninvited to your family's home to take pictures and notes?"

Guess I would understand it more if we were selling or buying. And if I had had advance notice. But apparently this happens every six years and after living in this county for close to 30 years I'm obviously clueless on this. Hopefully he won't raise my taxes for wasting his time asking too many pesky questions.

Is there any place on earth where you can be just left alone to peacefully live your life?
