“Evening, Tuolumne River” — Evening light on forests and peaks as the Tuolumne River flows through Tuolumne Meadows.
This quiet scene was even more peaceful than usual. It was an early July evening and the campground was still closed. There was hardly anyone else up there. Walking in the meadow I doubt if I saw more than a dozen people. I paused near some half-submerged rocks along the bank of the river and made this photograph looking east toward the Sierra crest in late evening light…continues: https://gdanmitchell.com/2025/08/09/evening-tuolumne-river/

It is a striking structure, originally built to ease the passage of Lisbon citizens from the city’s lowlands to neighborhoods in the hills. While it was a technological marvel back then, today is is more of a visual icon than a practical way to get around. Word on the street is that the wait to ride it is probably not worth it. Rather than stand in those lines, we simply walked to the upper level in the evening when it wasn’t crowded at all... continues: https://gdanmitchell.com/2023/09/15/elevador-de-santa-justa-night/
