🇨🇿V roce 1933 přicestoval fotograf časopisu Life Alfred Eisenstaed do Ženevy. Novinář s židovskými kořeny zde pořídil pozoruhodnou sérii portrétů nacistického Josepha Goebbelse.

Ministr propagandy “Třetí říše” se s Eisenstaedem sešel v dobrém rozmaru. I přes své tělesné postižení dokázal Goebbels díky své vysoké inteligenci působit jako charismatická osobnost. První fotografie ho ukazují coby usměvavého muže s otevřeným výrazem.

Až když Goebbels zjistil, že se za objektivem skrývá Žid, neovládl se.

“Když se na mě podíval, byly jeho oči plné nenávisti. Byl to pohled, kterým se na mě dívalo samo zlo. Za svým fotoaparátem jsem se ale nebál.”

O 12 let později pořídil Eisenstaed svou nejslavnější fotografii, zachycující spontánní polibek námořníka a zdravotní sestry během oslav vítězství Spojenců v New Yorku. Tou dobou byl Joseph Goebbels více než 3 měsíce po smrti. Zůstal s Hitlerem až do konce. Po diktátorově sebevraždě odešel mezi stíny vlastní rukou i Goebbels společně se svou manželkou, která předtím otrávila jejich šest dětí.

Goebbels met with Eisenstaed on a good whim. In spite of his physical disability, Goebbels was able to appear as a charismatic personality thanks to his high intelligence. The first photos show him as a smiling man with an open expression.

Only when Goebbels discovered that a Jew was hiding behind the lens did he lose control.

“When he looked at me, his eyes were full of hatred. It was the look with which evil itself looked at me. But behind my camera I was not afraid."

12 years later, Eisenstaed took his most famous photograph, capturing a spontaneous kiss between a sailor and a nurse during an Allied victory celebration in New York. By this time, Joseph Goebbels was more than 3 months after his death. He stayed with Hitler until the end. After the dictator's suicide, Goebbels also went into the shadows with his own hands together with his wife, who had previously poisoned their six children.
