Tento styl spánku existoval i v dobách Homéra a Vergilia. Křesťané to tehdy využívali k nočním modlitbám.
Bohatší vrstvy si mohly dovolit nevstát z postele, ale strávit několik hodin rozhovory. V té době v některých zemích bylo považováno za normální spát ve stejné místnosti nebo dokonce ve stejné posteli s rodinnými příslušníky, hosty a dokonce i služebnictvem.

Zařízení fungovalo na principu manuálního přetáčení pásu mapy. Mapy si mohl zákazník přiobjednávat. Původní cena je odhadována na pět liber, v současnosti by tomu odpovídala částka 45-50 liber (zhruba 1 400 korun). Dochovaný originál je součástí sbírky Maurice Collinse z Muswell Hill v Londýně.

Device worked on the principle of manually rewinding the map strip. The customer could order additional maps. The original price is estimated at five pounds, currently the amount would correspond to 45-50 pounds. The surviving original is part of the collection of Maurice Collins of Muswell Hill, London.

🇨🇿 V roce 1964 parta středoškoláků pospíchá, aby stihli koncert Beatles. Přestože se jim nepodařilo získat vstupenky, měli neočekávané setkání s Ringo Starrem. Když byli v autě, Ringo zastavil vedle nich a vyfotografoval je. Nikdo jejich příběhu nevěřil. O padesát let později byla pravda odhalena, když Ringo vydal knihu plnou jeho osobních fotografií, kde byla i tato fotka.
Na poctu této vzpomínce znovu vytvořili záběr.
