📣 Exciting news! The European Union's first harmonized crypto regulation, Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA), was officially published in the European Union's journal on June 9, with an effective date slated for today — June 29, 2023.
This start date initiates the countdown for businesses to align their operations with MiCA's stipulations before enforcement begins. Notably, certain provisions pertaining to stablecoins will come into force a year from now, while the remainder will be fully operational by the conclusion of 2024.
Yet, amidst this progress, MiCA comes with its own set of challenges. In my recent Forbes article, "European Union Outpaces Unfocused United States In Crypto Regulation, But MiCA Article 68 Raises Concerns," I delve into how Article 68 might impact privacy and security.
The EU is undoubtedly advancing in the field of crypto regulation, contrasting with the more fragmented approach in the US. Nevertheless, an optimal balance between innovation, compliance, and privacy in this ever-changing crypto landscape will need to be addressed. I invite you to read the article if you haven't already.
