You haven't said what comes after mainstream adoption. On the example of "renewable" energy particularly. The "renewable" energy market is being monopolized and scaled up to industrial levels. This introduces damaging side effects to the environment: deforestation, wind turbines waste etc. Think how "renewable" energy may be treated after it.

(take "mainstreamization" of LGBT in the end of 2010s - beginning of 2020s which damaged the community itself, as a reference)
