We've updated the rules of our flagship server mastodon.social today. Most are the same with some clarifications, but one rule is new: Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will not be tolerated.

The idea that they deserve a fee from developers for people simply running programs on their operating system is unhinged. The App Store fee is justified because it’s a distribution channel. My wife is looking forward to deleting her Instagram account once she can connect with the same folks from her Mastodon account. Being able to remain in touch with over 100M people who still use Meta products out of the comfort of an ad-free, privacy-friendly platform like Mastodon is a game changer.
#Threads is testing federation for a few selected profiles. I'm now following nostr:npub1vx0d6mclqzcseh3kr7q7quldtauke0wmqmt8sc0r5swtfjn3alnsv8ku9p! It's one-way for now, but it's exciting. It's a step towards the interoperable social web that we've been advocating for 🙂
