exit nodes are the tor network’s huge bottleneck. bandwith wise, and also IP-wise. a large amount of tor exit nodes get blocked by content providers because a lot of traffic is coming in concentrated from a small number of IPs. more exit nodes makes tor more usable. a lot of people rely on tor to circumvent censorship and other forms of repression.
