#nostr feels like a portal into the future

I don’t think so, since NIP-05 is not necessarily verifying your identity as a person, but as an account paired with something else that is otherwise a legitimate representation of you, or whatever you represent to be.

My understanding based on the above replies is that NIP-05 verification means the domain and Nostr account identity are verified to be paired; however, it’s not necessarily true that the person is who they say they are.

Maybe there will be NIP-05 verification services in the future (if they don’t already exist) that serve this purpose (to verify the person is who they say they are).

Thanks y’all. Very helpful info. I think I understand it about 75% now, haha. Is it just the domain that’s being verified as legit, or the person / username somehow? Based on what you shared, I guess it’s just domain.
