Perhaps direct people to follow hashtags based on their interests instead.
Simultaneously, put effort to build out how quality content within those hashtags is discovered (using an algorithm, not just “most recently posted”).
Through the hashtag path, people discover the best content for the things they care about, and as a 2nd order discovery, the people they want to follow directly.
See how this goes for a quarter or two, and then make it 10% of Block’s *total* gross profit, not just gross profit from Bitcoin products 😊
Y’all at CashApp & Square need to INCENTIVIZE merchants to accept Bitcoin. Make it BETTER than receiving dollars. To do so, you can make the transaction fee for merchants 1% LESS than the normal 2.9% fees when someone pays in Bitcoin.
Since you would no longer be paying credit card processing fees in this scenario, the company can still net plenty, and perhaps more since the only fees incurred would be to transact the bitcoin, which is cheap with lightning.
You could even give merchants “We Accept Bitcoin” and/or “Pay in Bitcoin” signage they could display in their store / on the counter and this could include a QR code to download the Cash App (with the merchant’s referral code built into it). The Cash App referral program could offer both the merchant and the customer $5 or $10 in free Bitcoin if the customer signs up, incentivizing both sides.
Thoughts?
One way or another, the code for open source projects could be hosted by nostr, right? That seems like it would be a wise thing for the projects to do (to ensure their longevity), and for nostr to support in an intuitive way.
Sort of like GitHub, done Nostr-style.

Why don’t you continue to call “X” Twitter? Come on, you know you want to :)
Might be a bit far along to make this change, but how about calling it the “Block Wallet”. Nice, simple, and clear. Helps strengthen Block brand too.
“Bitkey” sounds weak to me.
Actually, I’m realizing that the math doesn’t work out as described above, but what I’m essentially saying is that credit card interchange fees don’t exist with bitcoin / lightning, so this savings could be repurposed toward giving merchants lower fees & incentivizing them to accept bitcoin, and/or towards consumers via bitcoin cash back.
If someone chooses to pay in Bitcoin, there is the existing 2-3% transaction fee $SQ could play with to incentivize both sides of the transaction.
The fee for merchants could be just 1%, saving them money vs. a credit card payment, and the purchase price could be 2% cheaper for customers. Or, customers could get 2% of the total automatically converted as “cash back” / “bitcoin back” into their (Cash app) wallet.
I personally would choose to “Pay in Bitcoin” all the time if Cash App automatically converted my fiat dollar balance into bitcoin for the merchant upon payment, and I automatically received 2% “bitcoin back”. Much better than “cash back”!

I like your overall mentality and statement. Thanks for the reply.
Your comment doesn’t really address my question though. You can’t just not pay tax when transacting in bitcoin as the law stands today. With respect to freedom and human rights, it seems we should be able to transact with whatever we wish without government involvement & tax.
I wonder if the answer to this question will be answered at Supreme Court level, or otherwise. It feels like the key unlock.
Do you think that the legality of #bitcoin to be used as a currency (where there are no tax implications for transacting) will be tested at the Supreme Court level? If so, when? nostr:note1w7hcx5am8ef25s8h9yrrp02lewxdc0gjs99a97lg0q9ykqk9637srju7v2
I imagine the current legal attacks on crypto are going to escalate into their highest form — supreme court and otherwise — and only the hardest form of money will prevail.
With the reignited attack on crypto, the true hardness of money is about to be tested. May the best coin win.

Inevitably this kind of thing will make its way in, so what do y’all think is the way to keep it out without impinging on free speech ideals? Would it be up to a client to filter it out, perhaps using an open sourced, non-biased AI layer on top?
eCommerce / selling things seems like a good use case on top of #nostr. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
