You deserve what you tolerate.

I'm sharing this story with permission.

55-year-old male (eats mainly fatty meat, eggs and dairy - yes, if you know anything about the carnivore diet, you will know this is a very healthy way of eating) gets a medical done for work. Comes back very high cholesterol. His doctor wanted to put him on statins. His work needed sign-off from his doctor to continue to work. He knew his doctor wouldn't sign off on this!

Now, if you have read The Great Cholesterol Myth by Bowden and Sinatra, you would know that you need to work out the triglyceride to HDL ratio. If that is under 2, then you have nothing to worry about. Note that both measurements have to be in mg/dL (use this here omnicalculator.com/health/cholest…), and then trigs divided by HDL gives you the ratio! His works out to 2.25. Perhaps a little high, possibly due to him having spent the previous week eating a fair amount of carbs (way more than usual due to travelling).

I encouraged him to go see a low-carb doctor, as generally, they are clued up about cholesterol. He found one, who himself used the same ratio and said he was low risk, but said the only way to get his work off his back was to go for a coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan.

Well, guess what his CAC score was. Zero! And his original (idiot) doctor wanted to put him on statins!

By the way, yes statins lower cholesterol, but low cholesterol does not mean low risk!

For those who think he is still at risk because of high LDL, see here tctmd.com/news/zero-cac-…

I highly recommend reading The Great Cholesterol Myth if you haven't already. You will find a link on my website (link in bio).

Very interesting. Are there resources for finding a local doctor who is open to this WoE? A low-carb doctor, as you put it.

X wants to be the everything app. Welcome to Global Social Credit Score 1.0:

The recent wave of bans, verification and blue check removals, demonetizations, subscriber cancellations, and changes to the algorithm to effectively throttle the reach of dissenting voices on #x should be a watershed moment for Nostr.

The supposed ā€œfree speech public squareā€ has shown itself to be no different than #twitter under Dorsey. Accounts that say unapproved things are being shut down or having their reach throttled. And for those that escape the ban hammer they can expect to have their voices muffled and their feeds scrubbed free of any wrongthink.

Does X owe them anything? No. Not even a platform to speak from. But for a company whose owner has been banging the drum of free speech and claiming, repeatedly, how X was *the* place for all voices, you can’t blame those affected for feeling betrayed and speaking up.

This will be a mask off moment for #elon who, between his earlier push for H1B visas (and subsequent bizarre responses) and, now, by banning/demonetizing/algorithmhas seen his support on the right evaporate. In just a few weeks he’s gone from libertarian tech darling to political pariah.

More worrisome than his actions taken on X, are the deeper concerns about his connections to the CIA, military, and public-private censorship and surveillance cabal. nostr:npub1g0587hzzckcncxfm78n0996qe2s58nspy29wf02tqcj5sdzcpj4q6j40hv has been thorough, vigilant, and relentless in her reporting on this, and, if you haven’t already, I highly suggest following her and reading her research and perspective on the situation. It’s the best real journalism you’re going to encounter.

So, what can we do? Spread the word about #nostr on other platforms. Every voice that’s silenced somewhere else has a home here. Use your reach to share the value Nostr brings to those you follow and interact with who are feeling the squeeze. Share nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424's excellent intro to Nostr video. Show them who is already here that is in their orbit. Be welcoming. Let this be the catalyst that starts the exodus from centralized, compromised, surveilled, controlled platforms for the masses.

New year, new hobby? For anyone looking to build out their first AR, use this handy chart to identify the correct items in your LPK.

Online videos for assembly are great, but it’s not always easy to tell which spring or pin is being used. Use this in parallel with you instructions of choice to get clarity and avoid confusion or, worse, and mangled part.

It’s also a good idea to buy an ā€œoops kitā€ which contains replacements for most of the small, easily breakable or easy to lose parts. Nothing worse than being nearly finished on a build only to mangle a gas block roll pin and have to wait a week to get a new one.

I had a similar thought in the shower this morning. I was thinking about how it would be if everything was simpler and found myself asking: if you could revert back to a state of less tech (or even none) would you do it? I absolutely would accept that shift.

I don’t recall if crossing was in reference to Christ’s wounds. I actually don’t recall any added symbolism other than it mirroring the cross. But, then, I didn’t pay a lot of attention in church, so it’s possible this is correct. We also weren’t taught to hold our hands in any specific way. Just that we touched our head, shoulders, and heart/midsection was sufficient.

I’m finding that everything in Orthodoxy has weight and reverence to it. Not to suggest Catholicism takes everything lightly, but the differences going a from Catholic mass service to an Orthodox Divine Liturgy were stark. The seriousness works for me and has really helped in bringing me closer to Christ.

As a recent Inquirer, I had no idea and suspect I’d not have realized if I’d attended Divine Liturgy without having done research beforehand. Now, though, I think it would stand out to me.

Great questions. Let’s add to them:

1. In what world does the FBI allow any reporter, let alone a no-name randy to access a crime scene that’s of a supposed terrorist attack? And after just 48 hours?

2. Why would anyone leave the warrant and evidence seizure documents displayed on the island?

3. How convenient is it that he had a Quran on display that just happened to be turned to a page containing a passage related to jihad?

This whole situation falls apart with basic logic, which begs the most important question: who benefits from this narrative being accepted and how does it benefit them?

It is if you know what to look for, but to an outside observer the Catholic up-left-right-down vs the Orthodox up-right-left-down pattern or that the Orthodox has his hand in a specific position likely goes unnoticed.
