I have decided 32 years later to try watching #DS9
Hooooo boy episode 1 of Deep Space Nine is horrible.
The acting is like bad community theater, which I'm not sure if I blame the actors or the director or the writers... it's just painfully bad all around.
I hear at some point it gets much better, but this is possibly the worst/stiffest acting I've seen on Star Trek... and that's saying something.
Also what the fuck were the writers thinking by introducing "characters" who don't understand linear time? It is literally impossible to write for such a character without completely defeating how language or storylines work with every statement. If they exist outside of linear time, then they already know all events past/present/future and would never ask questions about them... and yet they're portrayed as being quite inquisitive and concerned about consequences, implying that they are NOT outside of linear time and they've somehow just failed to notice that some events lead to other events, so they're dumb as hell.
I get that the whole purpose of the outside-of-time characters is to just act as a macguffin for exposition, but UGHHHHHHHhhhhhhh. I feel like I'm watching a stilted Waiting For Godot. Or maybe that bit towards the end of Zardoz.
My low opinion of humanity keeps finding new lows.
I just learned that Prop 6 in California, which ran uncontested and basically said "we should ban slavery and indentured servitude" FAILED to pass.
Either:
1. a large portion of the residents of California are cool with slavery
2. a large portion of the resident of California were not literate enough to understand the wording of Prop 6.
Both options contribute to my aforementioned low opinion.

I woke up around 4am and it was Crocodile Shop's cover of The Cure's "Let's Go To Bed", but then I fell back asleep and now it's Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" so I guess today is a 2fer. Or maybe even a 3fer, since one of them is a cover. 😅

The billboards stuff is pretty great. Not sure I found the song all that catchy, but perhaps I need to listen a few more times.
Oh, and here’s the video I was referencing. 😆 https://youtu.be/faRDvZAeVJg
USA1HWs: There were (are) 2 bands that came to prominence in the 90s that had the word "Verve" in their name. The Verve and The Verve Pipe. The “|” character is known as a pipe…
k, quick #ThursdayFiveList -- I guess it's #TheSpace this week, so uh... first five songs I can think of that have something vaguely space related in 'em...
1. Billy Thorpe - Children of the Sun
2. Europe - The Final Countdown
3. Babylon Zoo - Spaceman
4. Black Sky Giant - Planet Terror

5. VNV Nation - Nova

Pretty sure I'm the first person to ever use most of those hashtags. :blobcatlaugh:
As a very young Gen X-er, (Xennial? 🙄) I have a soft spot for "Hair Ballads" or whatever you wanna call the sappy output of otherwise hard-rockin’ bands of the late 80s and early 90s.
I’ve been working on a playlist, but for reasons I can’t quite pin down, there’s some bands/songs that just don’t quite fit in my mental model of hair balladeers.
- Journey - Faithfully
- Def Leppard - Love Bites
- Guns n’ Roses - November Rain
- Aerosmith - Crazy
Did all those bands have long hair and generally "hard rock" catalogs of music? Yes.
So why do I feel weird putting "Love Bites" or "November Rain" on a playlist alongside "Fly to the Angels" and "When I See You Smile" ?

"Prove you are who you say you are and that you're connecting from a trusted device".
I wouldn't expect to see that sorta thing to be broadly available anytime soon though. The healthcare industry moves slowwwwww AF.

Had dinner at https://www.travailkitchen.com/signature -- it was so good/fun. they even did a trivia game during the course of dinner. (didn't win that one, but fun nonetheless)
2000s was uh... Ping Pong Song? just started with ping pong noises.
Rock was Jimi Hendrix's rendition of "All Along the Watchtower"
You will probably hate the Type O cover, but I love Peter Steele's voice. 😁

nostr:npub1vgashp8fjt8nxdq308p4qqsrjxed935padfpgannlmhptjqj2zwsq42kuw 🤣 it was a joke, but now I'm tempted to actually file and RFC about it. :blobcatlaugh:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_Fairey
> Fairey created the "André the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign in 1989, while attending the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).[16][18] This later evolved into the "Obey Giant" campaign, which has grown via an international network of collaborators replicating Fairey's original designs
> Fairey began appropriating the Russian Constructivist style utilized in Soviet-era propaganda during his time in San Diego. "'I think he became an art icon when he started focusing on Communist imagery,' Goff says.

nostr:npub18gragp20g724vah8r5wd285ukj3pm4aa5g9tlglqfp03vsvz7feqpq2eew Oh man. Hahaha. The Hives are something special. They definitely have songs that I don't re-listen to but when it gels (it usually does) they're ridiculous. The new album gets a little weird in the middle but it blasts out of the gate with like, 4 or 5 bangers right off the bat.

Their whole "Besnard Lakes are the Roaring Night" album is a series of slow builds.

Maybe this year I'll rig up a sound system to make it play "Boris the Spider" on repeat.
