I hope they’ll be able to release a new one soon with or without Cosmic to alleviate these problems…

nostr:npub1qq2s6x4hsqy692ed59c3gtxcq9huj3tm50rvn0u8kup2gce5esxqchq87j From what I understand, it’s because it’s based on older versions of GTK that other distros can’t really ship easily without creating problems for newer apps, but I might be wrong!

nostr:npub1qq2s6x4hsqy692ed59c3gtxcq9huj3tm50rvn0u8kup2gce5esxqchq87j I don’t think it will be as problematic as Pantheon, since it doesn’t have the same issue: Pantheon depends on older versions of GTK, which is why not many distorts go through the trouble of packaging it.

Cosmic uses their own library so it should be much more portable

It's unlikely anything GNOME does that would motivate me to try it again.

nostr:npub10kjrmjylkaka7nzhu6q9w7zcgy7220nu80unpzc7wzvcfz2mws4sdh73t9 That’s quite an outdated opinion, every release since GNOME 3.32 or something has added new things ;)

nostr:npub10kjrmjylkaka7nzhu6q9w7zcgy7220nu80unpzc7wzvcfz2mws4sdh73t9 Yeah, at that point, only GNOME doesn’t have it. I really hope they ship that in 45

For me, GNOME and KDE have surpassed what Windows or macOS offer. They’re not issue free, but they’re amazing!

nostr:npub16qycqgtr3cpju20538pr50hp8ha2kjlq8ukt0fnqfpk4j3teexzs5nl75q I Hope they don’t use the abysmal color palette of material you though 😂

nostr:npub1lk8s7ndahn93a74sf506cnjdf57xp745nvrrualv305c56ugja5s4zls45 I think our current desktops are already really good, but Cosmic looks pretty cool!

nostr:npub188q3683vez7v4mnugjv4nf6ud3z9mkn2h7kgc76z6ph6advw5vdqdj3jlx Looks great, still *really* hoping that cosmic eventually gets some cohesive SDK to somewhat easily develop Linux applications. GTK becomes really complicated at times, and I wish there was an easier alternative. Even if they don't though this is still beyond exciting ^^

nostr:npub1s64nrlulut0npls9qxhh0cqncl40k8st3xt9925pmhghcucrusns28cs6t I think they have that, with libcosmic, they seem to be providing what developers would need to make apps for it!

Whether it’s enough, or a good set of tools, it’s probably too early to tell, but they seem to be « dogfooding » it, which is always a good approach.

It's time for another #Linux and #OpenSource news video!

In this one, we have some nasty flaws in AMD and Intel CPUs that require performance-reducing mitigation patches (potentially brutal for Intel especially).

We also have some nice features for #KDE Plasma 6 and #GNOME 45, and an alliance between SUSE and Oracle to offer RHEL source code to the community:

nostr:npub1knh9u4uz985t3m9u838yyv407azapzgz2nng2tt4yz5cqlhupsnqj6y0uv Yeah, they could have just, you know, developed them for mobile 😂

I think the real reason they removed them was that it allowed creators to put prominent links that made people leave YouTube to go to other websites

nostr:npub1nlkwfmq0ulr8qurmckly9ylc87dewvp0zvq6zc3gya2fg6q7t6usd5230r Haha you’re right this wasn’t very understandable, I edited the post to make it more legible!
