Walking around Taipei one thing that stands out. As far as I can tell. Please tell me I'm wrong

Retail decentralization.

No major hardware chains

No major supermarkets.

Lots of small shops that specialise in one thing.

A shop for envelopes

A shop for oil seals

A shop bottles

A shop different lengths and shapes of aluminium

A shop for plumbing piping - but no other plumbing stuff, just piping

The list can go on and on.

It appears to be an example of how dencetralization created specialisation.

For example the small shop that stocks various shapes and sizes of aluminium angle and tube has a far greater range than you could find in a massive hardware chain store in Australia or Europe.

Another thing to note is there barely any empty shops. All space is put to good economic use...

Next project- look into how easy hard it is to open and run a small business in Taipei - I'm wondering how much the state interferes, supports or steps back from the opening and running a small business here......
