I am traveling to one of the coasts in Egypt with some friends, and one of my least favorite aspects of these trips are the rest stops.

We stop at one, with a gas station and convenience store. There are like forty or fifty guys coming and going while we are there, and no women. People smoke at tables inside the convenience store all day, which makes the whole place smell bad, and the restrooms have no soap in them. So tons of people using the restroom all day with no proper handwashing or even the option for it.

But notably while we were in there, a well-known professional Egyptian former football player and current football manager came in. I don’t follow football, but all my friends recognized him immediately. So there’s that I guess.
