I wanna give a shoutout to nostr:nprofile1qyx8wumn8ghj7cnjvghxjmcpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqqgxfkx0le4p7df0j8v7jwyrvux0y45kl3xapqvwagctlrdv3uyyfv5lgpykq for his appearance on Mark Moss' pod, discussing some of the key aspects of the spam debate.
Many I think, including me, feel that there is a social and SoMe engagement penalty for giving too frank takes on Core and the spam debate.
As an influencer it seems more in your self interest (in terms of engagement and standing in the Bitcoin influencer network) to remain neutral or passively signal Core support.
Therefore I think it is very commendable when large accounts risk alienating some of their followers or network to give their honest opinion, and be true to what they think is best for Bitcoin.
Also I thought the points shared in the episode were very fair, non-divisive, while still getting to the heart of the most important, high level issues, like:
- Balance of power in Bitcoin development is good
- Do no harm principle
- Censorship resitance is meant for monetary transaction
- Some spam mitigation is better than no spam mitigation
- Directionally we should want to fight spam, not enable it
