Catholic stay at home father of 6. Interested in spaceflight, decentralized communication, salvation, math, twin primes, and everything else.

Have you tried ruby? In ruby everything (including ints) are objects, because people with a true object orientation are only attracted to objects. Thus they objectify everything.

It is also supposedly a duck-typed language, but it isn't a pure one like Mallard, a language I just made up. In Mallard everything is a duck.

Because that is where it sits. It is as perfomant and capable as c but safer than go. For distributed and secure systems it is probably the "right" language.

I always choose notes over carrier pigeons, it is much faster.

We should, however, have the option to print our notes and other relay requests so we can send them however we will.

I need to carve out some time to familiarize myself with all the various things. I really haven't had time to check out things like Alexandria and gitnostr. I feel like I am missing the bus on so much that is going on.

They aren't the same thing. No one has a problem with people supporting Palestine. Hamas is not Palestine and the IDF is not Israel. I am not fine with the actions of the IDF.

But the broader point remains we are to be peace-markers. That implies not supporting those fighting a war of retribution. The Israelis don't follow Christ, but you and I do. It is a harder higher road but we must take it.

While I strongly disapprove of what Israel is doing, I am at a loss as to how anyone can defend the actions of Hamas. Atrocities are never justified. Not in defense, not in offense, and not in retribution.

Christ came with a different message. "Love your enemy, pray for those who persecute you."

"Resist not evil"

No. There is no logical reason that you should have to set it up once for each device once the devices share an identity. I used non-networking examples to show what the ideal experience is because our networking sucks. IP is fine, but everything downstream of that is suspect because things keep gravitating back into silos because of spam.

The only resilient form of communication is in person conversation. So far. We can and must be able to piggy-back off that. Once we stop accepting that networking has to suck, we can start building applications that ordinary people can use.

It isn't self-hosting that is the problem. It is the setup and network layer.

Do you have complaints about self-hosting solitaire or minesweeper? Of course not! They install without configuration and just work.

I'd counter with give me a protocol that doesn't require configuration of any apps that use it.

I don't want to pay for hosted services, not out of unwillingness to pay, but because that means I have configure something. Try telling people that they can have a great video-editing program and here are 14 companies they can pay to use it each with slightly different versions and pros and cons, but at least they are mostly interoperable.

I am skeptical of more complex algorithms. But one that simply varifies that the account is "in network" is good enough to stop spam.

If one of your friends or friend's friends etc is an idiot and keeps friending bots, keep that friend but ignore their contacts. Spam vector closed.

You pick an N connections. After 3-4 hops that probably encompasses anyone you would want to hear from.

Vote American Solidarity Party! They may not be for you, but I like them and I'd appreciate the extra vote.

Plus you get to scare the duopoly a bit. Force them to get heavy handed against upstarts threatening their narrative.

Supplement you mean? I keep all the DVDs in a binder for legal purposes and for the case I ever need to transcode a different audio format. But yes Plex is delightful.

The trouble is that no one wants to join one of their friend's commune and hang out with a bunch of their friend's friends.

I am kind of hoping Heaven solves this somehow. Maybe extra dimensions so everyone's house will simultaneously be in the center of all their separate social groups.
