nostr:npub1wc2kznjw6kldwzz8eedr9pf208waa8ww3fjsqk0nz4rdv8q663qswt4sk7 Yeah unfortunately until they work on integrating anything but XMPP and IRC
nostr:npub1j7h4uhwq33yzrg2ayfp5vyasun0ffmluy6lqj2803nhrvn7tp3msvqn5wd they can't. Today's messaging services are incredibly hostile towards third-party clients.

nostr:npub1nc7yff5d6egw2qwn88pjvfhj54hclm40dduyyupnxkwsdlnl49ms6dvhc2 phone numbers have country code. This is enough of a problem.
Why would I want what? To easily have different numbers for say personal and businesses purposes?
nostr:npub1wc2kznjw6kldwzz8eedr9pf208waa8ww3fjsqk0nz4rdv8q663qswt4sk7 Ok, but that only helps my point. 7 < 10 < OpenID.
Yeah I know the UK has 999 (I think). Didn't know any phones existed with a special emergency button, that's actually pretty cool.
nostr:npub1nc7yff5d6egw2qwn88pjvfhj54hclm40dduyyupnxkwsdlnl49ms6dvhc2 any Android or iOS phone has an emergency button on both the Lock Screen and the dialer.
You don’t get the problem, do you? With phone numbers, you are tied to one specific company that only exists in some part of the world. You can’t move to another country and keep your phone number (without paying an arm and a leg for roaming). You can’t easily have multiple numbers. There’s a shitload of limitations that need not exist.

>consistent 10 character identifier
hahahahahahahahahaha! You couldn't be more wrong, mate. Srsly. Did you know that many countries don't have area codes? In Iceland, your phone number is just 7 digits place the Iceland prefix for the international format.
For calling emergency, your phone has a huge buttom EMERGENCY. Calling 911 won't even do anything here, for one. In Europe it's 112.
Back when XMPP was still relevant (2008-2010), some of the people I knew dreamt about phone numbers being eliminated as a concept within a decade, if not sooner. That everyone would be able to just get an OpenID account on any server, have an XMPP account for texts and calls with the literally same address schema, email with the same address, etc. You could just tell your friends that you are reachable at anon@coolserver.net and voila! You can receive emails, texts (via XMPP), even calls. You can log into various sites, because certainly everyone will eventually adopt OpenID.
Fifteen years down the road, what instead happened is that almost every popular messaging app today relies on a phone number as a main address scheme and a proof of identity. Those lads couldn't be more wrong.

nostr:npub1sph2gxmf7yq6xx7w30cewcz7s6xxagavndgr6xpnyfyalcj2gk2sfx609s yeah, I figured. My point is that you can get a cheaper and better deal if you set things up yourself and you won’t lose in terms of availability or quality, unless you totally screw things up.
Half of the time I’m introduced to someone new I forget to tell him or her my name. Mostly, because I never need to use it, I simply refer to myself as “I”.
