Digit is Digit. I love her. I knew her online from wallstreetbets and she disappeared while going through some shit. I keep needing proof she's safe. To anyone I've ever treated unfairly, I apologize.

Then you'd have to organize for a future where it can be defeated and moved on from, and in the nearer term, it's essential to organize against the underlying causes of it to avoid a different future where we all die with no dignity

The lack of nostr users talking about the pandemic doesn't help. I've even tried reaching out to pandemic-aware people on X and told them they should be on nostr where exchange of information isn't suppressed. It's surprisingly insanely hard for people to go alone taking even 1 or 2 steps down the road less traveled.

I listened pretty carefully I just could not figure out wtf they were saying back then despite trying my best

Today I visited a school for mentally challenged and disabled kids that didn’t have a lick of AC.

Classrooms do have ceiling fans but they do sweet fuck all when it gets to a certain temperature.

It was 35 degrees + humid today but felt like 42.

That’s like when you open the oven door to check on your chicken.. every time you step outside.

Why was I there?

Well bitcoiners at btccuracao funded the school’s brand new WiFi.

I wanted to see the impact of this donation and speak to a poorer community about their experience with btc.

Btccuraco paid the internet company that installed the WiFi in Sats as part of the donation. It’s one of many grassroots initiatives they undertake to try to show that bitcoin is better money.

The new WiFi is a total game changer for the school and the teachers were tearful explaining how much it has helped them teach, inspire and lead these less fortunate kids.

But it only goes so far.

The solar panels atop the school’s long roof “stopped working” this week.

A govt contractor installed the panels this year as a “go green” initiative.

Long story of govt enraging incompetence short, basically half the school had working WiFi + ceiling fans. Sometimes the electricity simply cuts out.

So one half of the school had classrooms of engaged kids with YouTube access + useful visual aids for the kids in a semi manageable heat

while the other half slowly cooked and tried to read books in the inferno.

My white shirt was wet and transparent by the time I finished the school tour. I was like how the feck are these kids gonna get a chance in life?

I interviewed the head of ICT who was gushing about the new WiFi and was saying how some of the kids can now learn to code with this Minecraft coding thing.

She had the biggest heart. But like many islanders she had been crypto scammed a few years ago and was still really reluctant about bitcoin.

Really saddening because of course no sane person thinks “oh yeah I’m gonna learn about bitcoin now I sold my gold necklace for a crypto thing 5 years ago and never got the money back.”

I managed to send her some sats to say thank you but if I’m honest I think it’s coz I was recording this during the interview.

In all, I left the school utterly humbled and a little bit angry at the world.

I don’t have a nice thing to round off on, sorry.

Bitcoin doesn’t fix everything. And some things utterly suck.

Do they at least have access to cold water and/or ice? If not, it's much cheaper to have enough fridges and/or freezers and/or ice makers to keep every student supplied with cold water, ice, cold wet towels, etc. The money it takes to give half the school ACs could give the entire school cold water and ice with money left over to fix the solar panels. The electricity from the solar panels is also more well-used this way because the heat pump compressors are basically focusing on using (thermally dense) water and ice to remove heat straight from the human body instead of (thermally weak) air to remove heat from entire rooms.

It's important to position these things well though. They're not so useful if they're in a closed room with the students, they need to be where the heat can get away from the students. ACs are made to have this figured out for you, just put in window and heat gets pumped out the window. Sufficient AC is also more comfortable, but simply not affordable for as many people.

Honestly confused what you mean by this. If there's some island where the local authorities only allow engineless sailboats, that sounds too good to be true

I would just use the revenue from the loans to make the bank appear more valuable while I dump as much freshly-printed money as I can into bitcoin

The bank would fire me, but they don't fire bankers who think like me until the bitcoin part and then dump the money into bombing Gaza instead

The exciting thing about this election is that we're either going to get the first woman president (in a long line of war criminals) or a big non-uniparty voter turnout (in anger at war criminals)

Both options do nothing to make the world a better place, except be entertaining, which is enough to get excited about.

What really matters about this Presidential race is basically the same thing as what matters about anything else right now: it could all drive people to nostr. That's the state of the world in this early phase of nostr growth

Someone tell the X users voting for Jill Stein that they should strengthen their vote's attempt to signal resistance by bringing people to nostr, where nobody is banned and it's possible to organize against the uniparty state.

Seriously, this is a good opportunity for #nostr outreach. I've been telling people this over there.

They'll take it as an annoying attempt to detract from their swell of support on X, so be ready to engage on other topics too, we don't want to look like spammers.

I thought you meant the Presidential debate until I clicked and saw what you were replying to

To build mine one npub at a time, I would need to know Digit's npub. I don't even know if she has one. I'll stick with not following anyone on here for now
