Thank you for the sats! Have zapped you too. Welcome to the Lightning network 🤙💜
It's hard to think of any other number of sats that it's appropriate to zap someone.
Great suggestions. Thanks. Got part of the way there with the idea you could zap for an article but not necessarily pay a full subscription, but this is much deeper 🤙
I'm delighted to hear this. I might extend the Arnold imitation to all my spoken words.
I can only ever read this using Arnold's voice from Predator. Does anyone else have that problem?
Thank you! Tipped you once this am, but have another few sats now ...
TBF the fact that commercial and central banks virtually *can* create new money out of thin air is part of the open secret that I think deserves a lot more attention from normies 😂
Absolutely, very good UX and simple to use 🤙
Seveneves is brilliant, esp part one. TBF, have enjoyed every one of his books that I have read
That's also my understanding - they use LN via 'submarine swaps' where the LN payments take place whenever you send or receive. Ostensibly non-custodial, although they don't use a traditional 12/24 word list (and I have not yet done a full delete ans recover). I'd suggest using them as a simple workaround to get comfortable with moving from LN back in chain and vice versa.
Agree. I need to believe that everyone *can* get bitcoin though. I appreciate she may not yet do so, because living in a fairly free, fairly safe country with (until now) relatively low inflation, she doesn't yet think she needs it. Also I need to take a step back as I clearly come in too strong!
The UTXOs on chain have not changed, but you can think about it as a system of balances off-chain that have been updated. I tend to think that we should keep only small 'cash' balances in a lightning wallet, like your real world wallet, and sweep any larger amounts into your cold storage (on chain). Muun offer a good service that lets you send on chain as well, so if you are worried you can send LN payments to Muun then transfer on chain into cold.
True, good point. Perhaps I should start with asking how much a person knows about the legacy system before diving in hard and putting them off.
I feel like I have failed to explain to my wife just how incredible Nostr + lightning are.
Last night I demonstrated zapping to her, and she asked "how is that better than PayPal?"
After I'd picked myself up from the floor, I tried to explain and she said part of the reason she turns off when I start speaking is how aggressively I defend N+LN+BTC.
So, I clearly need to change my approach, and to think more carefully about how to talk to normies. Some initial thoughts below; what have I missed, Nostriches?
- Instantaneous, free final settlement. There's no rent seeker in the way, and my transfer can't be frozen or stopped. I can make micropayments of less than a penny, to someone on the other side of the world
- Essentially it's a cash transfer from peer to peer, without an authority in the way who can charge me or interfere
- I can pay total strangers, at will, without any KYC and without even finding out their names or locations
- The asset itself is absolutely scarce, travels at the speed of light, and can't be confiscated
I can't have my account suspended, or my access to the system withdrawn or limited.
I'm sorry this happened, but surely better to doxx yourself now than after 14 years of nostr

The more China adoption we see, the better IMHO. The bigger the cactus we can stick up the ass of the Chinese Communist Party (and all authoritarian regimes), the happier I will be.
Mind you, I have literally no idea what any of the posts in Mandarin are saying, but I'm just pleased they can say it here. Fuck the CCP!
