Any of you plebs have experience with and thoughts on a mobile bitcoin wallet called Keeper? bitcoinkeeper.app

#bitcoin

This is amazing! I’m about four beers in right now, full disclosure.

Refusing to spend Bitcoin is foolish high time preference thinking. You can always trade some privacy to use a KYC service like nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 and never touch your stack. Not like you have privacy when paying with fiat anyway.

How do you expect Bitcoin to be global money if even you yourself won't use it as such?

Respectfully asking; wouldn’t paying with cash be more private than any kyc service?

Replying to 789e4172...

How could it be implemented when this bill or similar one eventually passes?

Financial institutions

Banks, LSPs, mining pools, independent miners, exchanges, custodians,... fully KYC, KYB, AML compliant.

Bitcoin Network

Settlement network for financial institutions. Individuals and businesses have accounts with those financial institutions.

Lightning network

Payment network for businesses and individuals. Requires registration for individuals and businesses with a financial institution to gain access to the network.

Lighting channels

Legal channels are all owned and operated by financial institutions.

Lighting payments

All payments are compliant as they are processed and settled by financial institutions.

Miners

Purchases and sells of miners require KYC/KYB. Pool operators have to KYC/KYB hashers.

Nodes

If you are not a financial institution, you don't need a node. Financial institutions use their compliant nodes for their customers' transactions. Only people involved with illicit transactions need nodes.

Opting out

P2P will still exist, black market will emerge and the rest of the world will transact with US Bitcoiners, especially in jurisdictions where it's legal. After all, over 50 years of war on drugs hasn't stop the industry.

Foreign financial institutions

Reporting requirements on US customers will be extended to Bitcoin.

Enforcement

Enforcement doesn't have to be perfect to have a chilling effect. New laws and regulations will be added overtime to improve control. And for those who get caught, it will be a painful experience (asset confiscations, fines, jail time).

Impact on crime

The net positive will be an increase in activities dreamed criminal by the government. So crime will go up, and more means will be needed to combat those new criminals and jails to hodl them.

Why would the government pursue compliance and traceability of all financial transactions except for Bitcoin transactions?

Appreciate the thorough note. The part that really got me, “Enforcement doesn't have to be perfect to have a chilling effect.” Can only hope it works itself out, I suppose.

How could a ban on self custody even be enforced if they tried?

…Actually don’t answer that. These control freaks don’t need any more ideas.

Finally setup to actually receive zaps! I think it’s working. Could not figure out how to do it non-custodial without running a lighting node so I decided use nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9. At least I can send zaps non-custodial using nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg

It’s because you can’t actually travel back in your own timeline, but only a close version of it called a worldline. We learned this back in the early aughts from John Titor. No one found our worldline, or maybe there are better ones to exploit.

It's been a while since I've posted something like this for the new Nostriches out there. First of all, welcome to Nostr! We're glad that you're here with us in the decentralized social future of communication.

We don't have algorithms here to bring our content forward, so that means that you must put in the work here on Nostr to get the most out of it, to have the most success here so that you're not feeling like you're posting into the void. Nostr puts you in control of your social graph for the very first time. This means you're going to have to put in a little effort here. You're in control of both your data and your own social interactions. Nothing is spoon fed to you here.

This means that you're going to want to follow a lot of people. 1000 is a good number. You're also going to want to engage with people often on their notes and your own notes. That way your comments are seen often and your notes stay fresh in people's minds. Next, you're going to want to boost your own notes, sometimes, throughout the day, if it's a good one! If you posted something that's a just pure fire and you think more people should see it, boost it yourself in 4 hours or so, enabling others around the globe to find it and see it.

Hashtags are a great way to find new and interesting people and their content. You can follow #grownostr for (hopefully) new and exciting non-Bitcoin content and you can follow #plebchain if you're a Bitcoin pleb looking to connect with other like-minded folks. If you like food, check out #foodstr for delicious food pics. If you like feet, well, we have #footstr here too 😆 We have plenty of hashtags that people post to often. You just need to find and follow them 😉

How do you follow hashtags? Can’t figure it out. Using Damus, if that matters. Thanks!

Hypothetically, say I pickup some non-kyc btc & handle it properly as I use it. Then I go ahead and do proper tax reporting (USA). Have I just essentially kyc’d myself?

Tik tok is a mechanical man from the Wizard of Oz books.

Is that what that is? I just thought the booze was getting stronger.

When I was producing nostr:npub1m9phw8lsk0cj0sgzxq49lp45l9j385xx04ue6eu9z92rds87t0ps5r4fja, I always wanted to record a "Linux For Everyone: After Dark" edition.

The idea was to have an unscripted, unfiltered community-powered show with no boundaries on topics. (So, discussions that veered away from Linux and FOSS and focused more on the geeky, personal sides).

More fun, more playful, less edited, and maybe a little less "family-friendly."

Well, keep an eye on the nostr:npub1gzcxhmdfe2ne3vukxgqydkqlh44g8tdwd99eaa4q9mcr70r62djqp8fsz3 space 😉

I know nostr:npub1qkvfx73xz4z7xcppyc7jvz2nrsqvde52lhq370vjyvrp6kewsvmqvjdsph is in.

Who else?

Dude. That would be great! I do miss the podcast. Started using Linux desktop due to your show a few years ago. Never looked back.
