How many trips can you take through time? Just one? More than one?

If you go into the past can you come back to present? If you go into the future, can you come back to the past?

Too many variables, but I'd probably check out the future without going into the past first, then I'd go back into the past, set myself up for some success, and then bring it back to the present so I didn't miss much time.

I’d like to go back to the past to see some historical events or see some ancestors, but I’d be afraid of altering time
