There are reports that those who express support for Palestinians are being shadowbanned by centralised social media (x, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram).
We are not talking about accounts supporting hamas or any other terrorist group. We are talking about people sympathizing with the Palestinian people including civilians and small children caught in the crossfire.
Why is it more important to build an audience in nostr instead of X?
X is a centralised entity controlled by just one person. No matter how good or virtuous this person is, he has the ability at any given moment to make an arbitrary decision which could be against you. For example he can limit access to the platform, impose fees to use it, censor content, shadowban your account, block your content or delete your account, use excessive advertising or just make the whole UX bad. The thing is: you don't have actual control over your content. Suppose you decide to leave the platform, you can't take your posts and audience somewhere else.
On the contrary, on nostr your content and your followers are yours forever. No matter if a relay blocks you, or a client does not display your content properly, your posts are still available on another relay and displayed properly on another client or app. Your followers are yours too. Nobody can censor you, or delete you or limit your reach. You are free to broadcast to the world and no one can silence you. Even if all relays block you, you can still run your own relay.
As our future becomes more gloomy and dystopian, freedom of expression might be oppressed. Nostr ensures that no matter what, we still have a voice.
Thus I believe, building an audience on nostr is the most future proof decision you can make.

Good read! I believe we'd be better off if we never found out who Satoshi is...
My Wordpress web hosting ends next month. I don't blog much these days. Should I abandoned it and move to #nostr for all my posts? In theory, I could use it to post things almost like a Wordpress blog, right?
Seems very true indeed!
They do it to anonymous handles too but at least the people behind those handles have a sense of protection against all those bots & trolls.
My twitter account has my name on it but I feel more and more afraid to post my ideas or views because of the toxicity out there. I mean even the most common sense idea gets attacked. It's beyond comprehension. Even if I post something like: "All people should have access to air" can cause a furious debate. People on the left will call me a conservative or fascist, people on the right will characterize me an anarchist or terrorist and people on the center will invent something else. And all I would have said is that people need air to breathe.
Sometimes I am cautious even to the content I press like.
Right now small kids are dying in some parts of the world and if you express sympathy you are either a terrorist or a fascist (one side or the other); But actually I am just a parent who cannot imagine the unbearable pain of losing a child. That's all!
As for the argument about broadcasting to the world, I wouldn't mind exposing my identity to people that we could exchange ideas or debate on some kind of rational terms. I am not here to fight with anyone. Attacking people just because you don't see eye to eye, and easily characterizing / being characterized this or that is not my thing...
Interesting perspective on anonymity on #nostr - I started out anonymous on the forums back in 2014 but realised I needed to put my name to my work so ceded the comfort and started posting under my real name.
nostr:npub1dtf79g6grzc48jqlfrzc7389rx08kn7gm03hsy9qqrww8jgtwaqq64hgu0 mentions that some of it could be a throw back to traditional social media where people needed to be more careful, and that could be true for some.
However I think privacy is the main driver behind anonymous posting on here. Am I right?
The other think I like about anonymity is that it forces a person to confront an argument, not a person. If you don't like someone's view you can't insult their character or person of you don't know anything about them...and let's be honest, we've all seen it happen, or done it.
Good point! Especially the part about the confrontation of arguments instead of people! This happens all the time... People are ready to attack an idea before they even read it, based on who posted it!
If refugees match his ideology then they are worth saving... Otherwise... well, let them die...

Setting up a #nostr node seems like a valuable way to contribute to the society.
It promotes decentralization, fosters the exchange of ideas, eliminates censorship, and encourages everyone to participate.
I also noticed that. Are they bots?
I'm gradually moving away from Twitter (or "X"). I find myself using #nostr more and more.
