Owner of Terrible Toybox, the designer/creator of Monkey Island, The Cave, Pajama Sam and the designer/co-creator of Maniac Mansion, DeathSpank and Thimbleweed Park. Co-designer of Return to Monkey Island. All ideas are my own, but you'd be crazy not to agree.

OK, time to give Baldur's Gate 3 a try. I'm always 3 steps behind the big hot thing. When I was a kid I waited 3 or 4 months before seeing Star Wars.

I'm going to spend the next few weeks focusing on story. It's too easy for me to just program some new feature because of the new feature dopamine rush. I also need to find a tilemap artist that can also be an art director. I want the story and theme to come together with the art, rather than the art being something I drop in later. Finding a talented tlemap artist is proving much harder than I thought. If I was doing a risk register for the project, this would be item 1.

Our Flag Means Death is incredible. Can't wait for the 2nd season. It's as close as I want to get to a Monkey Island TV show.

I was in Cologne for devcom (right before gamescom). I was giving a talk about Return to Monkey Island.

Trip report from Germany: I left my reading glasses in a bar, I left my hat on the plane.

nostr:npub14cvvaetrdd9pxszw3qma6xa2jkekl349g9zds3s23jyk2s0gjr0sdju3lx I always forget about this David Lynch movie. I'm going to watch it again.

The story for my new game is about a going on an epic quest to find some Pumpernickel bread for an ailing grandfather. There is no "big bad", it's just a journey of discovery and exploration (with Diablo II style combat and looting).

I think I've come to that point with my new game. I'm spending too much time worrying about if my story will resonate, if the combat is what players want, etc. I loved playing the classic Zelda games, the combat of Diablo II and designing and writing Thimbleweed Park. I want to play this game and I'm going to stop worrying what anyone else thinks and just make this game. I really hope you will like it, but if not, that is OK. I'm at peace with what my game needs to be.

Current status: Slowly making my way to Germany.

Hanging out in the airport reading Mastodon.

It’s time like this that I like the federated feed. Non-stop stuff to read.
